Château Filhot

Château Filhot

Founded in 1709 by Romain de Filhot, the family-owned Château Filhot is distinguished by its history, its exceptional terroir and the quality of its wines, which combine richness, complexity and freshness. Classified as a Second Cru in 1855, Château Filhot today remains a benchmark for wine lovers.

Domaine covers some 350 hectares, 62 of which are dedicated to vines. The vineyard benefits from a unique terroir, combining gravelly and clay-limestone soils on a limestone subsoil. This diversity of soils favors a rich and varied aromatic expression in the wines. The microclimate, characterized by alternating morning mists from the River Ciron and sunny afternoons, favors the development of Botrytis cinerea, the noble fungus responsible for the concentration of sugars and aromas.

The Château Filhot cultivates mainly Sémillon, the king of Sauternes wines, which makes up around 60% of the vineyard. It is accompanied by Sauvignon Blanc, bringing freshness and vivacity, and a touch of Muscadelle, contributing to aromatic complexity. Vinification is carried out with meticulous care. The grapes are hand-picked in successive batches to select only perfectly ripe botrytized grapes, then slowly fermented in vats or barrels. Aging in French oak barrels for 18 to 24 months enhances the aromas while preserving the balance between richness and acidity.

The wines of Château Filhot are distinguished by their golden color, evolving towards amber tints with age. On the nose, complex aromas of candied fruit, citrus, honey, spices and white flowers seduce connoisseurs. On the palate, the balance between opulence and freshness reveals a persistent, harmonious finish. These wines offer exceptional ageing potential, evolving over several decades.

They are the perfect accompaniment to dishes such as foie gras, blue cheeses and yellow fruit desserts. It's also a wine that surprises with spicy or Asian dishes, revealing all its versatility.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
