Wine and spirits masterpieces to your doorstep
In the heart of Campbeltown, a small isolated town on the Kintyre Peninsula, Glen Scotia is much more than a distillery: it is a symbol of the golden age of Scotch whisky. Founded in 1832, it is one of only three distilleries still operating in this region once known as the "whisky capital of the world," where more than 30 distilleries thrived in the 19th century. Today, Glen Scotia continues to uphold its artisanal expertise and unique style, characterized by maritime and fruity notes and a subtle hint of peat, making it a jewel of the Southern Highlands. A multiple award winner, including Scottish Distillery of the Year 2021, Glen Scotia embodies the authenticity and passion of a terroir where the history of whisky has been written for nearly two centuries. The Glen Scotia adventure began in 1832, when the distillery was founded by Steward, Galbraith & Co. At that time, Campbeltown was a hub of whisky production, with a distillery on almost every street corner. However, economic upheaval and Prohibition in the United States in the 1920s led to the closure of most of the sites. Glen Scotia survived these trials and tribulations and continues to produce whisky true to the spirit of Campbeltown, preserving original production methods and equipment, such as the mash tun, the still room, and the 19th-century dunnage warehouses.
In 2021, Glen Scotia was named Scottish Distillery of the Year at the Scottish Whisky Awards, a recognition that crowns its commitment to quality and heritage. In the same year, its Glen Scotia 25 Year Old expression won Best in Show at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, a first for a Campbeltown distillery. These awards highlight Glen Scotia's unique place in the whisky landscape, where tradition and innovation meet.
Glen Scotia stands out for its traditional and meticulous approach, where every step of the production process is designed to preserve the authenticity and maritime character of its whiskies.
Preserved production methods
The distillery uses original copper stills, whose shape and size contribute to giving the whiskies their rich and smooth profile. Unlike many modern distilleries, Glen Scotia relies on slow fermentation and controlled distillation to capture the complex aromas of tropical fruits, honey, vanilla, and subtle maritime notes characteristic of Campbeltown whiskies.
Water drawn from Crosshill Loch and lightly peated malted barley (around 15-20 ppm) add a touch of sweet smoke and minerality typical of the region. The whiskies are aged in bourbon and sherry casks, carefully selected to enhance their aromatic profile. The distillery also uses finishing casks (port, rum, red wine) for limited editions, offering a diversity of flavors while remaining true to the spirit of Campbeltown.
A range of award-winning and iconic whiskies
Glen Scotia offers a varied range, where each expression tells a story:
Controlled aging and bottling
Glen Scotia whiskies are aged in traditional warehouses (dunnage, racks, and pallets), where the sea air of Campbeltown influences their maturation. The distillery bottles its expressions without chill filtration or added coloring, to preserve their richness and authenticity. Each batch is tasted and approved by the master distillers, ensuring consistent quality.
Glen Scotia is regularly praised by critics and international competitions. Among its most prestigious awards are:
These awards confirm Glen Scotia's place among Scotland's finest single malts, prized for their maritime profile, complexity, and authenticity.
