Quality of the clay-limestone soils, optimal sunshine with a southern exposure, natural drainage of rainwater due to the slope, excellent water regime thanks to the limestone substratum...
The Domaine possesses to the highest degree the characters that define the viticultural aptitude of a land. With the added argument of earliness, thanks to their white clay soils, which capture heat remarkably well.
In 2001, the former Château Lapeyronie, which has since become Clos Lunelles, emerged from relative anonymity into the light.
That year indeed, "struck by the magic wand of Gérard Perse" according to Robert Parker's formula, the small Domaine of the Côtes de Castillon (8.5 hectares) was to reveal the immense potential of its terroir by being granted, from the very first vintage of its new purchaser, a score of 93 out of 100 by the famous American commentator.
Clos Lunelles 2024, from the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, is a deep, generous red wine made from a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Carefully vinified, it is aged in oak barrels, 50% of which are new, providing an elegant woody structure without overpowering the fruit.
This vintage is distinguished by its dark ruby color and expressive nose combining ripe black fruit, licorice, mineral notes and a touch of candied orange zest.
On the palate, it offers a full, silky texture, supported by good acidity and fine tannins, promising excellent ageing potential until 2045.
For original food pairings, consider serving this wine with lamb tagine with prunes, vegetarian moussaka with grilled eggplant or risotto with porcini mushrooms and Parmesan shavings.
These dishes will highlight the richness and aromatic complexity of Clos Lunelles 2024, while offering a harmonious and surprising taste experience.
