The Château Chasse-Spleen is an emblematic Domaine vineyard located in the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation, in the Bordeaux region. Famous for the exceptional quality of its wines, Château has a rich history and benefits from a unique terroir.
The history of Château Chasse-Spleen dates back to the 18th century, when the Foixe-Bordeaux family founded the estate. However, it was in the 19th century that Château began to make a name for itself, thanks to the Cruse family, who acquired the property in 1850. The Cruses, a family of Bordeaux merchants, invested in the vineyard and facilities, improving the quality of the wines produced by Château.
Over the generations, the Cruse family have passed on their know-how and commitment to quality viticulture. Today, Château is still run by members of the Cruse family, continuing a centuries-old winemaking tradition.
The terroir of Château Chasse-Spleen is an essential element in the quality of its wines. The vines extend over nearly 90 hectares of gravelly soils characteristic of the Médoc region. These gravelly soils offer excellent drainage and encourage deep rooting of the vines, allowing the grapes to express their full potential.

Chasse-Spleen 2024, from the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation, reveals all the richness of its terroir. Gravelly and sandy-gravelly soils, on clay-limestone and clay-limestone soils, provide a perfect balance for the 115 hectares in production, with a planting density of 9,200 vines per hectare. The average age of the vines, set at 40 years, guarantees the full expression of the grape variety. The blend is composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot, while 15 months' barrel ageing, 40% of which is new wood, ensures the wine's structure and complexity. With a production of 334,000 bottles and an alcohol content of 12.5%, this vintage confirms the expected excellence.
The climate, marked by incessant rain after the harvest until December, created lasting humidity from spring onwards. The repeated showers encouraged coulure and millerandage, which affected the flower. However, downy mildew, although a cause for concern, subsided with a slightly late veraison. A hot summer from July onwards enabled vegetative growth to progress well, despite the concerns raised by the storms in September. A hail-storm that crossed the estate affected only part of the hectares, allowing pRéserver significant qualitative potential. The harvest, which took place in alternating rain and sunshine, revealed a surprising degree of ripeness, combining fruitiness and elegance.
Tasting reveals a brilliant, limpid, dark red color. Before shaking, aromas of black cherry and blackberry emerge, followed by notes of blackcurrant. On the palate, the attack is frank, with supple volume and chalky tannins, structured and dense. This wine, both greedy and fruity, will offer itself quickly, while retaining good length. A promising vintage, dedicated to lovers of precision and elegance.
