Château Lafite-Rothschild

It's impossible to talk about the great wines of the Médoc without mentioning Château Lafite-Rothschild. A Domaine steeped in history, whose reputation and prestige are matched only by the legendary wines born there.

Ancient medieval seigneury, it was under Jacques de Ségur, from a family of Bordeaux parliamentarians, that the first vines were planted in the 1670's. The wine gradually acquired an excellent reputation thanks to technical progress, at the royal court of Versailles but also across the Channel with the expansion of trade with England. Then in 1787, Thomas Jefferson, US ambassador to France at the time, praised it in his travel notes.

The Château Lafite was promoted to the rank of Ier Grand Cru Classé in 1855 on the occasion of the Paris Universal Exhibition, a distinction it shares with the Château Latour, Château Haut-Brion and Château Margaux, as well as the Château Mouton Rothschild since 1973.

The subsequent rise of Château Lafite owes much to the Rothschild family, with Baron James de Rothschild acquiring the estate in 1868 and attaching his name to it from that date. When Baron Eric took over the reins in 1974, everything was gradually put in place with the aim of modernizing and improving performance, in order to reveal the exceptional potential of the terroir. Description Château Lafite-Rothschild 2024.

"In its garnet-red case, the wine reveals a complex, elegant nose with notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, cherry and graphite. A touch of wood adds complexity after a few minutes' aeration. On the palate, the attack is straightforward, frank and fresh. The mid-palate is precise and concentrated, with aromas of black fruit and chocolate. The tannins are well-integrated, providing a rather silky texture. The beautifully pure finish expresses long, fruity notes." - Marie, Oenologist Premium Grands Crus

Cape Horn or Lafite 2024
If there's one captain who has never given up hope, it's Eric. At the helm of Lafite, he begins the crossing of what promises to be a difficult vintage. With his crew of solid sea wolves Pauillacais, they've crossed many capes, but never the Horn, and never from East to West!
From April to the end of June, there were weeks of fighting against mildew and the raging elements, hundreds of tacks that didn't go through, retreats to windward, refuges and returns to sea... until the entry into the Pacific on June 25. Here, everything changes, with days of gentle, temperate breezes. The vines heal their wounds, the crew recharge their batteries and the wounds are quickly forgotten.
By the end of August, the ripening process was well under way, and we were tasting berries selected from the vines on the Lafite plateau. They are full of flavor and life, the result of a perfect summer after all those storms.
The harvest begins on September 23 with our best Merlot grapes from Pointon and Gravette, and from now on we'll go ahead, whatever the cost, between the drops. Our best Cabernet grapes are harvested at the beginning of October, and we have everything in on the 7th.
Short vinifications, gentle Extractions, selected pressings, Olivier's team now navigates the cellar with elegance and precision.
What a past cape!

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
