One of the most beautiful Châteaux of the Médoc, with its slender turrets reflected in a mirror of water, producing a great wine in its image. Such is the Château Pichon Baron on the edge of the Pauillac appellation.
It was in 1694 that Baron Jacques Pichon de Longueville, first president of the Parliament of Bordeaux, gave his name to this vineyard of great reputation, which he acquired by marriage with the heiress of the De Rauzan family. He took care before his death to separate Domaine into two parts: one would become Château Pichon Baron and go to his two sons, and while the other would become Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse, intended for his three daughters.
The Château Pichon Baron will obtain the rank of Second Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification established for the Paris World's Fair.
Today it stands on a sumptuous terroir of quaternary gravels that face the Gironde estuary. With a surface area of 73 hectares, it is planted with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The wines are aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 80% of which are new.
The Domaine has been producing a Second wine since 1983, the Tourelles de Longueville, and another since 2012, the Griffons de Pichon Baron.
The wines of Château Pichon Baron embody the purest expression of Pauillac, harmoniously combining finesse and elegance, as well as purity and depth.
"A sumptuous garnet-red color, the nose opens with a greedy bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry, violet and black pepper. A fine woodiness adds depth on aeration. On the palate, the attack is smooth and unctuous. The mid-palate is rich in flavor, with chiseled tannins and a velvety texture. The finish, marked by a slight bitterness with a cocoa taste, also has a beautiful minerality with notes of graphite." - Marie, Oenologue Premium Grands Crus
The Grand Vin Château Pichon Baron 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855 comes from the oldest vines on the historic terroir of its Domaine. This authentic Pauillac offers an intense sensory discovery of black fruits and spicy notes. Château Pichon Baron reflects elegance, power and exceptional length on the palate. It improves year after year and can age for over 40 years in the cellar.

Vinification
Sorting was fundamental once again this year to ensure that only perfectly healthy, round berries were picked. To get the best possible result, the pickers carefully selected our harvest, then in the vat room, the sorters fine-tuned this work, before moving on to optical sorting. We used all the techniques at our disposal to make the most of this delicate harvest: gravity loading, light sulfiting combined with yeast-based bioprotection, an indigenous sourdough, low fermentation temperatures and measured Extraction with light pumping-over and delestage. Run-offs took place from October 15 to 24 for the Merlot and from October 23 to 31 for the Cabernet.
Aging: 70% in new barrels, 30% in one-wine barrels for 18 months.
