A magnificent Domaine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation, known for its label proudly displaying a ship, Château Malartic-Lagravière is a true gem. Owned in the 18th century by the Comte de Malartic, Château was known as Domaine de La Gravière until 1850, when it took on its current name.
Since 1997, it has belonged to the Bonnie family, who, vintage after vintage, have continued to sublimate the wines with energy and passion, elevating Malartic-Lagravière among the greatest names in Bordeaux.
The Château Malartic-Lagravière is based on a 71-hectare vineyard planted on an exceptional Pyrenean gravel hilltop.
- The red grape varieties (62 ha) are 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The grand vin is aged for 15 to 20 months in French oak barrels, 40 to 70% of which are new. The Réserve de Malartic is the Second vin rouge.
- The white grape varieties (9 ha) are 80% Sauvignon blanc and 20% Sémillon. The grand vin blanc is aged for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels, 40 to 70% of which are new. The Réserve de Malartic is the Second white wine.
The Château Malartic-Lagravière is a great, very elegant wine, both red and white. The reds are fruity, fleshy and structured, while the whites are unctuous and saline. Quite simply, these are haute-couture wines.
A vintage of precision and elegance
The year 2024 brought with it a demanding natural environment, requiring extreme precision in viticultural practices. The result was wines of remarkable balance, finesse and complexity. Winter and spring were marked by mild weather and persistent humidity. Spring, in particular, was characterized by high cryptogamic pressure, testing the vigilance of the winegrowers. But from the end of May to mid-June, a window of opportunity opened up for flowering, which proceeded serenely. With moderate water stress, the summer was fine, but not very hot, providing the vineyards with just what they needed, and ensuring good accumulation of polyphenols. Summer conditions were ideal for regulating vine growth and ensuring a good veraison. The grapes fine-tuned their ripeness until September, when the harvest was tackled with concentration, as we had to juggle storms. With cool nights and plenty of sunshine, the thermal amplitude was very favorable to a refined tannic constitution, and the grapes showed excellent ripeness. The 2024 vintage was marked by a cool August, which gave the whites an elegant Rare. The grapes picked in September showed excellent qualities.
The Malartic reds 2024, harvested from late September to mid-October at optimum ripeness, required meticulous attention, with meticulous sorting to pRéserver quality. In the end, Malartic reds show great concentration with very elegant, fresh, balanced fruit. These highly expressive aromas are accompanied by superb length on the palate. The 2024 vintage is a testament to the resilience and mastery of the Malartic teams. Despite the climatic challenges, it stands out for its harmony and elegance, with a dazzling aromatic profile.
