The Château Clinet is located on the summit of the Pomerol plateau, cradle of all the prestigious crus of this Terroir.
The name "Clinet" is spelled "Cliné" on Belleyme's map dating from 1785. The name may come from the Old French "Cliner" meaning gentle slope, on which this vineyard is planted from the famous plateau of Pomerol.
The vineyard extends over 8.5 hectares of deep old gravel with a subsoil rich in iron dross. The vineyard, which has an average age of 40 years, is planted with Merlot noir for 85%, Cabernet Sauvignon 10% and Cabernet franc 5%.
The grapes are hand-picked and sorted in the winery, and the wine is aged in 80% new oak barrels for 16 to 22 months.
The Clinet 2024 boasts a deep, luminous garnet color.
Its seductive nose evokes morello cherry, wild berries and hints of pastry, while the palate reveals a velvety, silky, fluid texture. The aromatic expression, intense yet elegant, stretches into a subtle, harmonious "mezzo" finish.
Produced from a classic blend dominated by 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the vintage was marked by a capricious oceanic climate: frequent alternation of rain and sun, a temperate summer and a late harvest.
Despite the year's challenges, the grapes reached optimal ripeness thanks to a well-drained gravelly terroir and a well-ventilated vineyard with old vines (up to 90 years old).
Aging on lees, in 60% new barrels, now refines a silky, concentrated body. This Clinet 2024, already very charming, offers immediate pleasure, while promising a fine evolution in the cellar.
Harvest dates: Merlot - September 23-27, 2024 and Cabernets - October 3-4, 2024.
