It's impossible to miss this winery with its pretty red facade at Château La Dominique, right in the middle of the Saint-Emilion winegrowing landscape and on the edge of the Pomerol appellation. A wine estate since the 16th century, its name is said to have been chosen by Henri Greloud, its 18th-century owner, in reference to the Caribbean island of La Dominique, which was part of the triangular trade and contributed to the wealth of Bordeaux.
Acquired in 1969 by the Clément Group Fayat, the vineyard has undergone continuous improvements over the years.
A turning point in its progress was notably its technical complex created by architect Jean Nouvel and inaugurated in 2014. It includes both winemaking spaces and a rooftop reception point with the restaurant "la terrasse rouge". The latter offers a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding vineyards.
The Château La Dominique was named Grand Cru Classé as soon as the Saint-Emilion classification was created in 1955, so renowned was it even then for the consistency and quality of its wines. It has maintained this position ever since.
Neighboring prestigious Châteaux such as Cheval Blanc, La Conseillante or l'Evangile, Château La Dominique boasts a 29-hectare vineyard planted on clay-gravel, clay-limestone and sandy-clay soils. The grape varieties are 89% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new.

The 2024 vintage of Château La Dominique gracefully embodies the balance between the generosity of Merlot and the finesse of Cabernet Franc, driven by an exceptional terroir on the edge of Pomerol.
On these soils of clay, gravel and sand, the 29 hectares of Domaine deliver a wine of elegance and depth.
On the nose, the wine seduces with its airy, refined profile, dominated by floral notes (iris, violet) accompanied by nuances of fresh red fruit and a subtle hint of sweet spices. A delicate first impression, but full of promise.
On the palate, the attack is supple, sustained by a velvety texture of great precision. Ageing in barrels (50% new), supplemented by 10% in amphorae, refines the tannins without ever dominating the fruit. The structure is straightforward, the balance mastered, and the long finish leaves an impression of purity and harmony.
La Dominique 2024 reflects the identity of its terroir, close to the finest crus, and the know-how of a committed team, led by Gwendeline Lucas, with Yann Monties in the cellar and the oenological expertise of Julien Viaud.
Despite the year's climatic challenges, this vintage is a success, combining elegance, freshness and intensity.
