A real treasure in the heart of the Saint-Emilion appellation, La Mondotte is a small estate whose origins date back to the early 19th century.
In 1971, it was acquired by the Comtes Von Neipperg family, and today Stephan Von Neipperg is responsible for its management, with the aim of producing an exceptional wine every year in collaboration with the advice of oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt. The entire vineyard has been farmed organically since 2014.
La Mondotte was awarded the title of Premier Grand Cru Classé in the 6th edition of the Saint-Emilion classification in 2012, a position it still holds today.
La Mondotte covers a small vineyard of 4.5 hectares planted on clay-limestone soils resting on a rocky substratum. The grape varieties are 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet franc. The wines are aged for 18 months in 100% new barrels.
La Mondotte is a Rare wine of great class, marked by fine tannins and opulent aromas. A resolutely distinctive wine on the Rive droite of Bordeaux.
97-98 Yves Beck - April 2025: "The bouquet immediately reveals La Mondotte's identity, based on the ripeness of dark berries and ageing, but in a register that emphasizes precision. The fusion between notes of ripe (and therefore whispering) blackberries and hints of violet is perfect. The result is freshness and charm. On the palate, the wine surprises with its saline attack. It paves the way for a compact wine driven by subtle, velvety tannins and an incisive structure that plebs the fresh, salivating sides of the finish. An aerial La Mondotte, flying over the vintage with serenity and dignity!" 2029-2054.
95-96 James Suckling - May 2025: "This has a crunchy, al dente character, showing sliced cherries, oranges and hints of iodine. Medium-bodied with a lovely drive and length. Compacted and serious. Nicely knit-together already. From organically grown grapes. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc."
