Superbly located near the village of Saint-Emilion, the Château Soutard asserts its splendor both by its beautiful building and the unforgettable quality of its wines. Its origins go back to 1513, it was then located on the Bourdieu of Mayne de Soutard, Bourdieu designating a Domaine gascon around a farm and a mill. It is in the XIXth century that it knew a real development under the impulse of Jean Lavau, notable owner of Saint-Emilion. Since 2006, the Château belongs to AG2R La Mondiale. New state-of-the-art technical facilities have been installed, including a magnificent cellar, and wine tourism has been wonderfully developed. Today, Château Soutard welcomes visitors from all over the world, who are delighted by this exceptional place.
The Château Soutard is now a Grand Cru Classé in the Saint-Emilion classification.
The Château Soutard watches over a 30-hectare (86-acre) vineyard implanted on the magnificent limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion. Some of the vines are located on clay slopes and on a sandy hillside. The grape varieties are 63% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, 7%... See more ...
Château Soutard 2024 embodies the elegance and complexity of its emblematic terroir, the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. Covering 35 hectares in a single block, the vineyard expresses all its richness through committed viticulture and precise vinification, guided by the purity of the fruit and respect for the terroir.
The 2024 vintage was a real climatic challenge, with over 60% more rainfall than the ten-year average. After a mild winter and cool spring, flowering was long and uneven, prolonging the vegetative cycle. Thanks to constant observation and rigorous technical control, the harvest (from September 19 to October 7) produced grapes of optimal aromatic maturity.
The blend gives pride of place to Merlot (48%), accompanied by Cabernet Franc (32%), Cabernet Sauvignon (13%) and Malbec (7%). The wine is aged in 50% new barrels, 20% one-wine barrels and 30% foudres, which have been integrated since 2017 to refine the definition of the fruit.
On tasting, Château Soutard 2024 seduces with its deep garnet color and clean nose of red fruit, cherry, violet and cedar. The palate is fleshy, fresh and dynamic, sustained by silky tannins with peppery notes, a faithful reflection of the clay-limestone soils. The finish, marked by the freshness of the limestone, reveals great sapidity and precision.
This vintage is the expression of a goldsmith's work, combining rigor, intuition and respect for nature to sign a refined, fruity and perfectly balanced wine.
Harvest dates: September 19 to October 07, 2024.
