Château Montrose

In 1778, Mont Rose was a gravelly hillside, actually a heather-covered moor whose flowers in shades of purplish pink served as a landmark for navigators heading upriver to Bordeaux.

It was at this date that the land was purchased by Théodore Dumoulin, who undertook the clearing and then the planting of vines completed in 1815 with his son, and that they gave this vineyard the name Montrose in homage to this mountain covered with pink-flowered heather.

It is a Second Grand Cru Classé following the prestigious 1855 list.

The vineyard, which covers around 70 hectares, is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon for 65%, Merlot noir 25%, Cabernet franc 10% on a soil composed of coarse gravel for around 4 to 6 meters and below an impermeable clay-marl layer into which the roots descend to get water, a qualitative asset in summer for optimal ripening.

Yield is around 371 tons, equivalent to 440 to 450,000 bottles per year.

All harvesting is done by hand, and the wine is aged in barrels for half of the crop, and the rest in barrels that have already aged the previous year's wine.

Description Château Montrose 2024.

Château Montrose 2024 stands out as a masterful interpretation of its estuary terroir, a wine of relief, chiselled by a demanding climate and magnified by the precision of the teams. This great wine reveals a dense, deep garnet-red color with purplish highlights, a harbinger of its concentration.

The nose opens with restraint, then blossoms with nuances of ripe black fruit (wild blackberry, black plum), enhanced by a racy floral touch (iris, violet) and deeper notes of graphite, black tea and finely integrated noble wood.

On the palate, the entry is straightforward, pure, almost crystalline. The structure is impressive but perfectly controlled, driven by a sovereign Cabernet Sauvignon (80% of the blend). The tannins are extremely fine, tight and silky, creating a long, vertical structure. The wine's energy is palpable, underpinned by a remarkable natural freshness, the signature of the 2024 vintage. The long, mineral finish stretches out on accents of licorice, cocoa bean and sweet spices.

Château Montrose 2024 is a complete wine, luminous and deep, both powerful and elegant. It perfectly embodies the rigor, precision and ambition of a Cru Classé at the pinnacle of its appellation, with exceptional cellaring potential.

ROSES2025

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
