Château Lagrange

A magnificent property in the Saint-Julien appellation, Château Lagrange now occupies an almost intimate place in the hearts of wine enthusiasts. Although its history dates back to the 17th century, it wasn't until 1796 that Château Lagrange underwent tremendous expansion under the impetus of its owner Jean-Valère Cabarrus, the finance minister of Napoléon I in Spain.

The Château Lagrange will obtain the rank of Third Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification for the Paris Universal Exhibition.

The Japanese Suntory group will acquire the Domaine in 1983, and spectacular technical renovations will be undertaken in the winery and vineyard to restore Lagrange's reputation.

Situated on two gravelly hilltops, the vineyard of Château Lagrange covers 118 hectares of vines, of which 68% are Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The wines are aged for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new.

The estate produces a Second wine, Fiefs de Lagrange, as well as a third wine in Haut-Médoc, Pagus de Lagrange.

The vineyard also boasts 11 hectares of white grape varieties for the production of their white wine Sec, les Arums de Lagrange, of which 80% is Sauvignon blanc, 10% Sémillon and 10% Sauvignon gris.

The wines of Château Lagrange are renowned for their elegance and complexity, where the finesse of the tannins envelop a fully fruity palate.

Description Château Lagrange 2024.

Vintage 2024: The Radiance of Adversity
Years ending with the number 4 have always had a reputation for challenging winemakers, and 2024 was no exception. Fickle weather conditions invaded French vineyards, testing the patience and know-how of the artisans of the vine. However, this vintage, announced as uncertain, is now proving to be a shining testimony to human resilience and the ability to adapt in the face of nature.

The Secret of the 2024 vintage lies in the experience accumulated by winegrowers over the decades. In response to the vagaries of the climate, the approach has been fine-tuned, reinforcing the care given to the vines and ensuring meticulous vinification. It is this delicate balance between ancestral know-how and modern innovation that has transformed uncertainty into unexpected success.

Average age of vines: 45 years
Harvest dates: September 24 to October 08, 2024
Ageing: Early blending of grape varieties in January. Aged 21 months 50% in new barrels Fining with egg whites in barrel Final blending before bottling

"Cabernet Sauvignon comes out on top, accounting for 84% of the blend. This comes as no surprise, given the relatively small berry size of the vintage for this grape variety. Merlot accounts for 10% of the blend. Petit Verdot plays the role of outsider to perfection, bringing color, structure and volume to the mid-palate, not to mention the very pronounced peppery notes this year. It's the doctor's grape par excellence! The press wines are very elegant, making up 11% of the blend. They enrich the mid-palate and add length and dimension to this vintage. Particular attention, careful selection and tailor-made vinification have resulted in a great wine with subtle, silky tannins, undeniable harmony and a wide tasting window. If years ending with the number 4 have the reputation of being complex, they also carry the promise of a wine that transcends obstacles to capture the essence of a singular vintage." - Eric Boissenot, Oenologist

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
