The Château Angelus and its famous carillon overlooking the surrounding vineyards is an essential reference for the Rive droite de Bordeaux.
The history of Château Angélus is intimately linked to its geographical location, as it was the only place around the village of Saint-Emilion where you could hear the sound of the angelus (L'Angélus in the singular, Christian prayer of the Western Catholic Church) from three surrounding churches: the Mazerat chapel, the church of Saint-Martin and the church of Saint-Emilion.
In 1782, Jean de Boüard de Laforest settled in Saint-Emilion, and his daughter Sophie settled on the Mazerat vineyard, owned by Charles Souffrain, whom she married in 1795. The de Boüard de Laforest family would thus remain at the head of Domaine, and it was Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, an oenologist by training, who would contribute to its great renown from 1985 onwards, by introducing innovative practices. His daughter Stéphanie joined the adventure in 2012, embodying the eighth generation. The passionate management of Château Angélus year after year is above all a family affair.

After five years working alongside his father, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest signs his fortieth vintage in 2024, an important milestone that his daughter Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal wishes to salute and honor. Named "L'Imprévisible", this vintage has a taste for adversity and challenge, two powerful stimulants that have always enabled Angelus to produce great wines.
After a mild, wet winter, spring was marked by unusual rainfall, with the exception of a period of fine weather during flowering, which lasted until June. The saying "August makes the must" proved true once again, with a sunny July and August Secs, allowing the grapes to develop beautiful ripeness, depth and character. September, although more uncertain, produced an abundant, high-quality harvest, with grapes of excellent quality.
La robe, a deep purplish color, perfectly reflects the Bordeaux climatic identity of this vintage. The first nose, bright and opulent, reveals the great ripeness of the Merlot, before giving way to the delicacy and complexity of the Cabernet Franc, with spicy, mentholated and floral notes. Violet and peony enrich these peppery nuances. On the palate, the wine is juicy, sapid and energetic, with dense, rich tannins and a cashmere touch. The discreet woodiness harmoniously supports the wine, ensuring perfect balance and excellent ageing potential.
