Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

The Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande embodies the elegance and refinement of Pauillac wines. It is a property classified Second Grand Cru in the official classification of Bordeaux wines of 1855. For over three centuries, this illustrious wine estate has been shaped by generations of enthusiasts, with meticulous attention paid to the quality of the terroir and the family's exceptional expertise.

The history of Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande dates back to the 17th century. In 1689, Pierre de Mazure de Rauzan, an influential wine merchant, acquired the vineyards and erected the Domaine that bears his name today. Over the years, Domaine changed ownership several times, but it wasn't until the early 20th century that Château enjoyed a period of stability thanks to the Miailhe family. In 1925, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, an emblematic figure in the Miailhe family, inherited the estate and devoted much of her life to its management, contributing to its worldwide renown.

Description Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2024.

The 2024 vintage will be remembered as a year of resilience. Marked by exceptional rainfall, unprecedented downy mildew pressure and significant coulure, the viticultural campaign proved to be a trying one for both vines and teams. The vegetative cycle was slowed down, with flowering and veraison stretching over several weeks.

However, a few weeks of dry, sunny weather between mid-July and the end of August enabled the grapes to ripen gradually, which was particularly beneficial for Cabernet Sauvignon, the emblematic grape variety of Domaine.

On tasting, the nose is fine and complex, with notes of rose, raspberry and blackcurrant jelly, as well as floral, woody and herbal touches such as lemon verbena.

Full-bodied, deep and balanced on the palate, with fine, powdery tannins. Aromas evolve on blackcurrant, brown tobacco, black tea and cocoa. The finish is long, elegant and racy, true to the Comtesse style.

The wine is aged for 18 months in barrels, 65% of which are new, with traditional racking and fining with egg whites. The blend comprises 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. With a low yield of 20 hl/ha and a moderate degree of 12.7%, this 2024 combines freshness, intensity and nobility.

Harvest dates: September 23 to October 8, 2024.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
