Chateau Gazin, it is a former Domaine of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta. The Domaine is today managed by the same family as several generations ago.
The vineyard with an area of 26 hectares in one piece is located on the high terrace of the terroir of Pomerol to the east., an optimal exposure at the time of ripening of the grapes before the harvest. The soil and subsoil is composed of clay-limestone.
The average age of the vines is 35 years and the grape variety is distributed for 90% Merlot Noir, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. All the grapes are harvested by hand.
Production varies from year to year but the volume is around 80 barrels or 90 to 100,000 bottles.
Half of the wine is aged in new barrels for 18 months before bottling.
The fruit of a meticulous harvest from September 20 to October 3, Château Gazin 2024 embodies an elegant interpretation of the Pomerol terroir. Predominantly Merlot (90%), complemented by 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, this vintage seduces with its aromatic depth and supple texture.
To the eye, it presents a dense purple hue. The nose opens with a beautiful intensity of black fruits (blueberry, blackberry) underlined by floral notes and a hint of minty freshness. On the palate, the wine is round and generous, carried by delicate, perfectly integrated tannins.
Aging in French oak barrels, half of which are new, for 14 to 16 months will bring complexity and elegance without masking the fruit's identity. Accessible in its youth, this Gazin 2024 will express all its depth after a few years in the cellar, with an estimated peak between 2030 and 2034.
A balanced, charming Pomerol, at once refined and ready to age gracefully.
