Clos du Marquis

Clos du Marquis is a renowned Domaine vineyard located in the Saint-Julien appellation, in the heart of the Médoc. Renowned for the exceptional quality of its wines, Château boasts a rich history and benefits from an exceptional terroir.

The history of Clos du Marquis dates back to the 18th century, when the Marquis de Las Cases, owner of the famous Château Léoville-Las Cases, decided to create a separate parcel called Clos du Marquis. This special parcel was delimited to produce wines from the vines closest to the Marquis' home, thus benefiting from optimal conditions.

Over the generations, the de Las Cases family has continued to develop and refine the Clos du Marquis vineyard. Today, Château is owned by the Delon family, who also own Château Léoville-Las Cases. The Delon's have maintained the integrity of Domaine while bringing their expertise and commitment to quality winemaking.

The Clos du Marquis terroir is a major asset to the quality of its wines. The vines extend over nearly 45 hectares of gravelly soils typical of the Médoc region. These gravelly soils are made up of pebbles, providing excellent drainage and optimal heat retention for the vines. In addition, the proximity of the Gironde estuary contributes to a climate favorable to grape ripening.

The Clos du Marquis vineyard is mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes, which are... See more ...

Description Clos du Marquis 2024.

From the sandy-clay gravel of the Saint-Julien plateau, Clos du Marquis 2024 precisely illustrates the mineral finesse and straightforwardness typical of this Secteur.

Situated to the west of the Grand Enclos de Léoville Las Cases, this 40-hectare vineyard benefits from an ancient, well-drained soil, enriched by a high organic content on the surface, a legacy of its forestry past.

In a demanding vintage, Domaine was able to orchestrate the vines with rigor, between sanitary vigilance in spring and selective harvesting in autumn. The result is a classic blend, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), precise, structured and elegant. The fine, chalky tannins add a refined tension that supports ripe black fruit, punctuated by floral, graphite and licorice notes.

The wine seduces with its restrained depth, powdery texture and ability to express terroir without overload. Balanced and chiselled, it offers a clear, harmonious reading of Saint-Julien in a vintage that is all about restraint.

A more "intellectual" style, as some critics put it, with a strong identity and the promise of long ageing.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
