It was in the 1880s that the great-grandfather of the current owners of Château l'Eglise-Clinet brought together several small parcels of Clos de l'Eglise and Domaine from Clinet to call it L'Eglise-Clinet.
Today, the vineyard has an area of about 6.5 hectares and rests on sloping, well-drained clay-gravel soil, an important condition for the sanitary condition of the grapes at harvest time.
Variety: 85% Merlot Noir and 15% Cabernet.
The Château is located a few blocks from Château Petrus and the average age of the vines is 40 years. The annual production is about 30 barrels or about 35,000 bottles and the vintages reach their peak after 10 to 12 years of aging in cellars away from light, noise, at a constant temperature between 14 and 16°C.
All the grapes are harvested by hand and the wine is aged for 15 months in barrels of which 30-50% in new barrels.
"In 2024, the vines were slowed down by continuous rain and insufficient sunshine despite the summer heat, yet they enabled us to vinify a vintage with the mathematical elegance and luminous precision of a French garden." - Noëmie Durantou, Operations Manager
"Pleasure and taste! - Olivier Gautrat, Cellar Master
« Let us linger over the 2024 vintage, which sways like an ethereal waltz. It’s buzzing with the delightful harmonies of spices and berries, seduces with the radiance of its silky tannins, and charms with its invigorating freshness, culminating in beautifully enduring finish. » - Constance Durantou, Co-manager
"The 2024 vintage offers a myriad of smells and flavors. From the red fruit and fern notes of Saintayme to the medlar and acacia of La Chenade, we move on to the vetiver and smooth mouthfeel of Les Cruzelles. Peppery, apricot-flavored Montlandrie gives way to the velvety rhubarb and cherry of La Petite Église. The apotheosis goes to L'Église Clinet all orgeat syrup, vanilla and truffle." - Marie Reilhac Durantou, Co-manager
