Darroze

Darroze is a renowned spirits trading house, specializing in exceptional eaux-de-vie and armagnacs. The story of this family-run house is one of passion for craftsmanship, tradition and the relentless pursuit of quality.

The Darroze family has built its reputation on an incredible collection of Armagnacs from the region's finest estates. Each is matured in its own personal piece of oak; the name of the estate, the year of production and the bottling date guarantee this unique diversity. To pRéserver specificities, no blends of Domaines or vintages. So as not to betray the typicities, no "reduction" that would dilute not only the alcoholic strength but also the aromatic power and nuances of the terroir by adding "petites eaux".

The story goes back to the end of the 19th century, when Francis Darroze, a young man with a passion for spirits, began scouring the Armagnac region of southwest France for the best armagnac producers. He was one of the first to realize the importance of pRéserver exceptional quality eaux-de-vie, preserving their authenticity and terroir.

Francis Darroze passed on his passion to his descendants, in particular to Marc Darroze, who played an essential role in the development of the trading house. Marc Darroze travelled the Armagnac region, forging close relationships with local producers and discovering hidden treasures of eaux-de-vie, often aged for many... See more ...

Description Darroze carafe 1973.

Marc Darroze offers us here one of those Raretés that he has the Secret and that he preciously broods in his cellars. A Bas-Armagnac made from Baco and Ugni Blanc grapes, distilled (continuously) in 1973 and bottled in April 2023, i.e. 50 years resting in oak casks.

This Bas-Armagnac sports a beautiful amber color with golden highlights. The initial nose is rich and intense, with hints of apricot, quince and prune. Complexity quickly builds, with aromas of fruit Secs, caramel, roasting and leather. And what about the spices ... licorice, vanilla, nutmeg, clove, white pepper, ...  it's a farandole! The palate is firm and dense, but full of finesse, and totally in harmony with the bouquet. Prune, stone, coffee and cocoa, gingerbread, honey, almonds and light tobacco. We end on notes of walnut and undergrowth before an interminable finish on rancio.

This 1973 Armagnac stocking from Marc Darroze will sublimate a simple fig tart ... it can also be paired with a semi-cooked duck foie gras for a more daring pairing.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
