Domaine Marguet: a biodynamic vision of Champagne.
Located at Ambonnay, in the heart of the Champagne region, Domaine Marguet stands out for its commitment to biodynamics, a Rare approach in Champagne. This conversion, initiated by Benoît Marguet, has profoundly transformed practices at Domaine.
While Benoit's parents Marguet sold their grapes to the house Krug, Benoit Marguet developed his own wine range with numerous parcel-based cuvées highlighting the diversity and richness of the old vines of Domaine.
As a fervent advocate of Biodynamics, Benoît Marguet, has revolutionized working methods by introducing biodynamic preparations, phytotherapy and aromatherapy. He has also introduced tillage with draught horses. The 8-hectare Domaine obtained Demeter certification in 2013.
Benoît's approach Marguet is guided by respect for natural balance, service to life, and delicate accompaniment of the winemaking process, avoiding any Brutality. Particular attention is paid to fermentation and ageing under wood. The use of sulfites is minimized.
At the same time, a significant effort has been made on dosage, drastically reduced or even eliminated on most cuvées. This development demonstrates that meticulous work in the vineyards produces wines that are authentic, expressive and naturally balanced by their terroir.
The culmination of this approach is represented by the cuvée Sapience, the result of a collaboration with oenologist Hervé Jestin.... See more ...
The La Grande Ruelle Grand Cru cuvée, made from grapes grown on the plot of the same name, from vines planted in 1967 on clay and brown silt soil, is a 100% Pinot Noir cuvée. This champagne with no dosage (0 added sugar, brut nature) offers aromatic depth and exceptional structure, faithfully reflecting its unique terroir. Pressing is carried out on a Coquard press, and vinification uses natural yeasts with aging on lees for 9 months, following the lunar calendar to harmonize natural energies. Only 1,738 bottles were produced for this vintage.
Boasting a deep golden color with coppery highlights and luminous intensity, this cuvée has a very fine effervescence. In the glass, it offers an intense nose with aromas of candied yellow fruits, chamomile, brioche, and vanilla. Exotic nuances emerge after aeration, adding a captivating complexity. On the palate, the attack is powerful and fleshy, with a dense body and velvety texture. The flavors of vine peach, cooked pear, and spices are intensely expressed, supported by a liveliness that brings a vibrant tension. The exceptionally long finish reveals notes of dried fruit with a hint of licorice that lingers on the palate.
