Château Phélan Segur

The Château Phélan Ségur, embodies elegance and excellence. Nestled in the heart of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, this historic Domaine has a long winemaking tradition dating back to the 19th century.

The vineyard of Château Phélan Ségur extends over 70 hectares of well-exposed land, benefiting from a soil rich in gravel and clay. This ideal environment, combined with a unique microclimate, gives the wines exceptional quality and outstanding typicity. The grape varieties mainly grown on Domaine are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, each bringing its own characteristics and contributing to the complexity of the wines.

The wines of Château Phélan Ségur are renowned for their powerful structure, aromatic depth and great ageing capacity. They harmoniously combine strength and elegance, with fine tannins and beautiful freshness. The red wines express aromas of ripe black fruit, blackcurrant, licorice and spices, while the discreet woodiness gives them a subtle note of vanilla and cedar.

The vinification at Château Phélan Ségur is carried out with meticulous attention to every detail. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted, allowing the best berries to be selected for vinification. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels for an appropriate period, favoring the harmony of flavors and the blossoming of aromas.

Description Château Phélan Segur 2022.

Wine review by professional critic Jeff Leve of "The Wine Cellar Insider" rated 94-96/100

"Deep in color, the wine is smoky, with chocolate covered plums, black raspberries, spices, violets, and cinnamon coming through in the nose.

The wine is rich, lush and polished.

The fruits are dark, ripe, sweet, and fresh, leaving you with a finish packed with powdered chocolate, black cherries, turmeric, black currants, plums, licorice, and espresso.

This should be quite enjoyable on release".

Wine review by professional critic Georgie Hindle of "Decanter" rated 95/100

"A delicious and well-constructed wine from the Phélan team in 2022.

Polished, balanced and just so drinkable - proximity to the river and clay soil helping keep freshness in the hot and dry conditions.

A gorgeous texture straight away, clean and clear, juicy, vibrant and grippy with a chalky, flint and graphite element to the fine tannins.

You really feel they've taken the best the vintage had to offer with precise definition to all the elements; ripe bramble and cherry fruit, high acidity with a wonderful spiced and mineral signature from the St-Estephe terroir.

A combination of power and charm that builds in structure and intensity while keeping a mouthwatering energy from start to finish.

A top buy - and could be upscored in bottle!"
