Château Guiraud

The Château Guiraud, located in the Sauternes appellation of the Bordeaux region, is a distinguished wine estate that combines a rich history, family management and exceptional terroir to produce sweet wines of exceptional quality.

The history dates back to the 18th century, when Pierre Guiraud, a merchant and vineyard owner, acquired the property in 1766. Since then, Domaine has seen a series of passionate owners, but it is under the leadership of the Narby family, who acquired it in 2006, that Château Guiraud has cemented its reputation as a producer of great sweet wines.

The Narby family has continued the tradition of respect for terroir and innovation, introducing sustainable viticultural practices and adopting modern winemaking methods. Domaine is certified organic and biodynamic, underlining their commitment to preserving the environment and producing superior wines.

Situated on the Sauternes plateau, the Guiraud vineyard benefits from a soil composed of clay, limestone and gravel, which favors the development of botrytis cinerea, the noble fungus needed to produce sweet wines. The vines also benefit from ideal sun exposure and proximity to the River Ciron, creating optimal conditions for the formation of noble rot.

Description Château Guiraud 2023.

CLIMATIC CONDITIONS 2023

After a mild winter with little rain, the 2023 growing season got off to a very early start, only partially escaping the frosts of early April, without compromising harvest potential. The hot, humid conditions of spring led to significant vegetative development, as well as significant sanitary pressure. The latter forced our teams to redouble their vigilance and efforts to successfully combat mildew. The summer, on the whole rather Sec, relieved the teams but delayed the emergence of Botrytis cinerea. Fortunately, a heavy spell of rain in mid-September enabled the fungus to be inoculated, and the Indian summer that followed led to optimal development of noble rot, with the first sorting on September 27. This was followed by a relentless series of intensive sorting days until October 13, bringing to a close a month without rainfall. The candied grapes are of exceptional quality, with a remarkable freshness that perfectly complements the aromatic richness and smoothness on the palate.

TASTING COMMENTS

"A bright, brilliant golden yellow color. The initial nose is marked by brilliantly fruity aromas of pink grapefruit, clementine, pineapple and passion fruit. After swirling, the aroma develops with notes of thyme and Provence herbs, to which an elegant smokiness is added. On the palate, acidity perfectly balances the richness and density of the vintage. The length is underscored by a spicy, zesty character that will accompany this very fine wine over time."

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
