Château Cantenac-Brown

Château Cantenac-Brown

Located in the heart of the Margaux appellation, Château Cantenac Brown is a magnificent Tudor-style estate unique in the Médoc. It was founded by Scottish businessman John Lewis Brown, who bought Domaine in 1803 and entrusted it with this architectural inspiration.

The Château Cantenac Brown will be classified Third Grand Cru Classé in 1855 during the official classification for the Paris Universal Exhibition.

Owned by the Le Lous Family since 2019, the vineyard, situated on magnificent gravel soils conducive to producing great wines, is planted on 60 hectares with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The wines are aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new. A Second wine is produced, Brio de Cantenac Brown.

Since 2011, Château owns 1.80 ha planted to 90% Sauvignon blanc and 10% Sémillon, giving birth to their white wine: Alto de Cantenac Brown.

Very committed to the environment, a new, eco-responsible, all-raw-earth winery is currently under construction for the estate. It will be delivered for the 2023 harvest.

The wines of Château Cantenac deliver a perfect representation of the very best Margaux, opulent, fine and deliciously complex.

Description Château Cantenac Brown 2025.

The 2025 vintage of Château Cantenac Brown promises to be a great success, brilliantly showcasing the finesse and refinement characteristic of the great Margaux wines. From the very first tastings, it captivates with its remarkable balance of concentration, elegance, and freshness, offering a particularly pure expression of its gravel terroir. The year began with a mild and sufficiently wet winter, allowing the soils to replenish their water reserves under favorable conditions. Spring proved more variable, alternating between mild spells and wetter periods, requiring constant vigilance in the vineyard to ensure the grapes remained in perfect health. Summer, meanwhile, offered ideal conditions for ripening. Sunny days, combined with cooler nights, fostered a slow and steady development of the berries, allowing them to retain beautiful natural acidity while reaching optimal ripeness. The harvest, carried out entirely by hand between September 5 and 22 depending on the grape variety, yielded small-sized grapes that were particularly rich in phenolic compounds. The naturally moderate yields helped enhance the fruit’s concentration and intensity. Aging takes place for fifteen months in French oak, 60% of which is new barrels, allowing the structure to be supported without masking the fruit’s identity. Vinification was carried out in the estate’s new gravity-fed winery, designed to ensure extremely gentle handling of the grapes and musts. Fermentation, conducted at low temperatures and separately for each plot and each grape variety, preserved the full aromatic purity and precision of the terroir.

On the palate, the wine reveals a particularly expressive and refined nose. Aromas of fresh black fruits—blackberry, blackcurrant, and black cherry—dominate, accompanied by delicate floral notes that evoke the elegant signature of the great Margaux wines. The overall impression is precise, luminous, and of great purity. The palate impresses with its silky texture and remarkable precision. The attack is harmonious and elegant, carried by a dense yet never heavy body. The tannins, of great finesse, delicately envelop the palate while providing depth and structure. The vintage’s natural freshness admirably supports the whole and brings a beautiful energy to the wine. The finish stands out for its length, clarity, and balance. Ripe fruit lingers for a long time, accompanied by subtle floral and spicy notes that extend the tasting experience with great distinction.

Château Cantenac Brown 2025 perfectly illustrates the estate’s ability to produce wines that combine controlled power, elegance, and precision. Racy, harmonious, and already very appealing, this vintage also possesses the structure necessary to age gracefully for many years. A particularly accomplished Margaux that authentically expresses the nobility of its terroir.

ROSES2025

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
