The Château Potensac is an iconic wine estate located in the Médoc region of Bordeaux.
This magnificent estate has a rich history, a deep family tradition and an exceptional Domaine that make it a major player in the Médoc appellation and the French wine industry as a whole.
The history of Château dates back to the 18th century, when the Delon family acquired the property in 1750. Since then, the Delon family has played a key role in the preservation and development of this Domaine winery. Specifically, family member Jean-Hubert Delon has managed the estate and been the driving force behind its rise to world renown. His commitment to quality and winemaking tradition is deeply rooted in the history of the Delon family and Château.
The Domaine covers around 84 hectares of vines, mainly planted with Bordeaux's traditional grape varieties, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. These vineyards benefit from an exceptional terroir, characterized by clay-limestone soils, which contribute to the complexity and finesse of the wines produced.

In 2025, Château Potensac produced one of the most accomplished vintages in its recent history. Grown on the hillsides of Ordonnac, where clay-gravel soils rest on a rare limestone base, the wine fully benefits from a terroir capable of preserving freshness and balance even in the sunniest of years. The hot, dry conditions of the 2025 growing season fostered remarkable concentration in the grapes, while the rains in early September allowed the grapes to reach full ripeness under ideal conditions, giving the wine a particularly appealing harmony. The blend, dominated by Merlot (41%) and complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (37%) and a significant proportion of Cabernet Franc (22%), gives the wine a personality that is at once full-bodied, energetic, and refined.
The bouquet is immediately expressive, blending notes of blackcurrant, black cherry, blackberry, and pomegranate with delicate floral nuances, enhanced by hints of graphite, sweet spices, and a subtle chalky minerality. The palate captivates with its precision and balance. From the first sip, the fruit appears pure, juicy, and luminous. The texture is dense without ever becoming heavy, supported by a particularly well-crafted tannic structure that is firm, velvety, and perfectly integrated. The Cabernet Franc adds extra tension as well as an aromatic brilliance that energizes the entire mid-palate. As the tasting progresses, the wine gains depth and complexity. A characteristic briny freshness accompanies the flavors of ripe black fruit, while perfectly balanced acidity supports the structure and prolongs the tasting experience with great energy. The long, lingering finish reveals notes of graphite, wild berries, and delicate spices in a sensation of remarkable balance.
Potensac 2025 impresses with its ability to combine richness, freshness, and precision. More ambitious than showy, it stands out as a great wine for aging, deeply faithful to its Médoc origins. Its natural balance, the quality of its tannins, and its controlled intensity give it considerable aging potential. Several tasters already consider it one of the greatest Potensacs ever produced, a major success that confirms the estate’s continued rise among the essential references of the northern Médoc.
