In 1875, J. Petit-Laroche married, and offered his wife in caDeau of marriage, the construction of a beautiful bourgeois home opposite his Médoc cellars: the present-day Château. The work was carried out by the Marian brothers, contractors in Moulis.
It's a strange and daring architectural blend that seems to marry several styles, much like the Médoc wine that's made from the blending of several grape varieties.
The overabundance of decor, which aims to evoke the Renaissance and the mid- to late 17th century, make this building an excellent example of the eclectic architecture that flourished in the Médoc at the end of the 19th century, before the crises that the vineyard may have subsequently experienced (Phylloxera, mildew, ...).
Located in the heart of the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation, Château Maucaillou has produced a particularly appealing 2025 vintage, revealing all the richness of a sun-drenched year while retaining a lovely freshness of expression. The deep gravel terroir, typical of the appellation, yielded ripe, concentrated grapes with remarkably well-preserved balance. The vintage benefited from favorable weather conditions, resulting in rapid and uniform ripening of the berries. The harvest, carried out with precision, yielded grapes of exceptional quality, offering aromatic richness and beautifully mature tannins.
On the palate, the wine reveals a deep color with intense purple highlights. The nose is immediately expressive, dominated by aromas of black fruits such as blackcurrant, blackberry, and cherry, complemented by delicate toasted, spicy, and slightly licorice notes. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and luscious. The generous, well-integrated body unfolds harmoniously around ripe, silky tannins that provide structure without excessive power. The fruit retains plenty of vibrancy and freshness, giving the wine an approachable and charming character despite its lovely density. The balance between concentration, roundness, and tension lends great coherence to the whole. The finish, persistent and elegant, prolongs the fruity and spicy notes with a pleasant sensation of freshness.
A well-rounded and indulgent Maucaillou 2025 that perfectly captures all the suppleness and depth of the great wines of Moulis-en-Médoc.
