The Château Haut-Bailly produces wines whose qualitative nobility places it among the greatest of the Rive gauche de Bordeaux. Its winegrowing history dates back to the 17th century, when it was already the envy of many buyers.
In the 1630s, it passed into the hands of two Parisian bankers, Nicolas de Leuvarde and Firmin Le Bailly, the latter of whom gave it his name, Haut, in reference to its location on one of the most beautiful hilltops in the Graves region. It wasn't until the end of the 19th century that its owner at the time, the engineer Alcide Bellot des Minières, introduced the necessary innovations to raise it to the level of the greatest wines of Bordeaux. In particular, he had the building of Château constructed as we know it today.
Classified as a Graves wine in 1953, it was acquired by the American Wilmers family in 1998, and today Chris Wilmers has been at the helm since 2017, accompanied by Véronique Sanders the general manager. For the 2021 harvest, the new winery at Domaine was inaugurated, featuring state-of-the-art technology and perfectly integrated into the landscape thanks to its semi-buried design.
The Château Haut-Bailly produces only red wines and is based on a 30-hectare vineyard planted on gravel and sand soils.

The 2025 vintage of Château Haut-Bailly follows in the footsteps of the estate’s great vintages. After a mild winter with enough rainfall to replenish the soil’s water reserves, the growing season began early, with particularly consistent budbreak and flowering. Starting in late June, hot and dry conditions set in and persisted, promoting the natural cessation of vine growth—a factor often associated with the very great Bordeaux vintages. Despite a summer marked by a significant water deficit and several heat waves, Haut-Bailly’s old vines demonstrated a remarkable ability to adapt thanks to their deep root systems. A welcome rain at the end of the ripening period revived the vegetative cycle without compromising the vineyard’s health, resulting in concentrated, perfectly ripe grapes with excellent quality potential.
Harvesting began on September 4 and took place under ideal conditions. The small berries harvested displayed remarkable concentration while retaining a precious freshness. The Merlots stand out for their structure and density, the Cabernets for their fullness and elegance, while the Petits Verdots exhibit a particularly appealing aromatic purity. Vinification was carried out with precision in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete tanks, prioritizing gentle extraction to preserve the fruit’s vibrancy and the finesse of the tannins. Aging is scheduled for 16 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new, sourced from several selected coopers.
On the palate, Haut-Bailly 2025 impresses with its natural harmony. The wine combines depth, richness, and aromatic intensity while retaining remarkable freshness. The ripe, perfectly integrated tannins support a full-bodied and refined texture. The wine displays a remarkable balance between power and elegance, suggesting exceptional aging potential.
In a vintage marked by moderate yields and a high natural concentration of the grapes, Haut-Bailly 2025 confirms the estate’s reputation for great “5” vintages. A distinguished, deep, and perfectly crafted wine that could establish itself among the estate’s major benchmarks alongside the 2005 and 2015 vintages and the greatest successes in its history.
