Created at the end of the 18th century, Château Bellefont-Belcier is ideally located on the south coast of Saint-Emilion, bordering Château Pavie, Château Larcis-Ducasse and Château Tertre Roteboeuf.
The Domaine Bellefont-Belcier originally belonged to a powerful Bordeaux family: at the end of the 18th century, Count Louis-François de Belcier had first founded the vineyard and then, at the beginning of the 19th century, built the Château which he named Bellefont (short for "Belle Fontaine", in reference to the many springs near the Château from the clay-limestone hillside).
The Château Bellefont -Belcier is located in the commune of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes in the Saint-Emilion appellation area Grand Cru. The vineyard extends over 13.5 hectares of vines in a single block. It is divided into three distinct areas: the limestone plateau, the southern clay-limestone slope, the sandy-clay foot of the slope.
On these different types of soil, we find the three great red grape varieties of Bordeaux in the following proportion: 72% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon spread over 28 parcels.
The 2025 vintage of Bellefont-Belcier perfectly captures the refined character of this Saint-Émilion cru, combining rich fruit, elegant structure, and subtle aging.
Made from a blend dominated by Merlot, the wine draws its complexity from the clay-limestone and molasse terroirs of the Fronsadais region. Rigorous vineyard management, combined with traditional soil cultivation and grass cover, fosters a faithful and nuanced expression of the vineyard. Vinification, carried out in concrete tanks with very limited use of sulfur, preserves the wine’s aromatic purity and natural texture. Aging, divided among barrels (30% new), oval casks, and multi-vintage containers, helps refine the structure without masking the fruit.
On the palate, the wine displays a deep, brilliant color. The nose is intense and precise, blending aromas of ripe black fruit with floral and delicately spicy notes. The overall impression is one of freshness and complexity. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and silky, giving way to a dense yet perfectly controlled texture. The fine, elegant tannins provide structure to the wine. The mid-palate reveals a beautiful richness, balanced by a mineral tension that stretches the wine harmoniously. The aging blends in subtly, adding delicate woody nuances and an even more enveloping texture. The long, precise finish prolongs this impression of balance and finesse, with an aromatic persistence marked by fruit and a slight chalky freshness.
A Bellefont-Belcier 2025 that is both structured and elegant, captivating with its precision, complexity, and faithful expression of its terroir.
