An iconic vineyard located in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, Château Langoa Barton was acquired in 1821 by Hugh Barton, a descendant of Thomas Barton, a native Irishman and merchant at Bordeaux.
In the famous 1855 classification, Château Langoa Barton was named Third Grand Cru Classé. Today, Lilian Barton Sartorius, Anthony Barton's daughter, runs the various family estates accompanied by her two children, Mélanie and Damien, who represent the tenth generation.
Laying on gravel soils with clay subsoils, the Domaine vineyard covers 20 hectares of vines, including 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 9% Cabernet franc. The wines are aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new.
The Château Langoa Barton offers a typical Saint-Julien wine, both complex and silky, presenting a fine balance between tannic structure and fruit expression.
Château Langoa Barton 2025 perfectly captures the classic elegance and natural balance of the great Saint-Juliens, in a sunny vintage that was masterfully managed. Grown on deep gravel soils resting on a clay subsoil, the vineyard expresses this year a beautiful harmony between generous fruit, refined tannins, and structural freshness. The early and consistent growing cycle allowed for a smooth harvest from September 4 to 18, under optimal conditions. The perfectly ripe and uniform grapes yielded concentrated yet balanced fruit, supported by controlled yields and precise plot-by-plot management. The 2025 blend features a dominant Merlot (45%), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) and Cabernet Franc (15%), giving the wine a profile that is at once full-bodied, elegant, and refined. The Merlot contributes its silky texture and rich flavor, while the Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure with firmness and energy. The more discreet Cabernet Franc adds very elegant floral and spicy nuances. Ageing in barrels, with 60% new oak, imparts a subtle patina and enhances the complexity without overpowering the fruit.
On the palate, Langoa Barton 2025 captivates with its immediate balance. The nose opens with pure, expressive dark fruit—a blend of blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry—enriched with notes of violet, cedar, and delicate spices. The palate is supple on the attack, then unfolds with breadth and precision. The velvety, perfectly integrated texture rests on a fine, structuring tannic framework that retains a great deal of energy. Despite the vintage’s richness, the wine maintains a remarkable freshness that lengthens the finish and imparts a sensation of elegant tension. This stretches out over fruity and slightly spicy notes, in a very harmonious register.
