Château Angelus

The Château Angelus and its famous carillon overlooking the surrounding vineyards is an essential reference for the Rive droite de Bordeaux.

The history of Château Angélus is intimately linked to its geographical location, as it was the only place around the village of Saint-Emilion where you could hear the sound of the angelus (L'Angélus in the singular, Christian prayer of the Western Catholic Church) from three surrounding churches: the Mazerat chapel, the church of Saint-Martin and the church of Saint-Emilion.

In 1782, Jean de Boüard de Laforest settled in Saint-Emilion, and his daughter Sophie settled on the Mazerat vineyard, owned by Charles Souffrain, whom she married in 1795. The de Boüard de Laforest family would thus remain at the head of Domaine, and it was Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, an oenologist by training, who would contribute to its great renown from 1985 onwards, by introducing innovative practices. His daughter Stéphanie joined the adventure in 2012, embodying the eighth generation. The passionate management of Château Angélus year after year is above all a family affair.

The Château Angélus was named Grand Cru Classé when the Saint-Emilion classification was created in 1955, due to the great... See more ...

Description Château Angelus 2025.

In 2025, Château Angélus continues to focus on an expression increasingly centered on the purity of the fruit, precision in extraction, and the pursuit of a balance between restrained power and aromatic elegance. The wine estate draws on its historic terroirs of south-facing slopes, where deep clay and limestone soils play an essential role in building structure and freshness. The 2025 vintage emerged from an early and generally warm growing season, marked by a vegetative cycle that began quickly following a mild winter and sufficient water reserves. A consistent spring allowed for uniform flowering, while the dry, sunny summer accelerated ripening without significantly disrupting the balance, thanks to the influence of cooler soils and extremely precise plot-by-plot management. The harvest, carried out through successive pickings at perfect ripeness depending on the sector, allows for a nuanced expression of the wine estate’s various terroirs.

Winemaking is conducted with a rigorous plot-by-plot approach, favoring gentle extraction and carefully controlled maceration to preserve the fruit’s vibrancy and the finesse of the tannins. Ageing in barrels, with a carefully controlled proportion of new oak, supports the structure without masking the wine’s aromatic identity, in a constant quest for precision and clarity.

In the glass, Château Angélus 2025 stands out with a deep color and intense purple highlights. The nose opens with an expressive array of ripe black fruits—black cherry and blackberry—accompanied by floral notes of violet and delicate spicy hints. Upon aeration, fresher nuances emerge—slightly minty and graphite—signatures of the great terroirs of Saint-Émilion. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and velvety, carried by a dense yet perfectly controlled texture. The wine unfolds with energy and precision, supported by fine, ripe, and perfectly integrated tannins. The balance between concentration and freshness structures a harmonious progression, without excessive power. The long and persistent finish lingers with a sensation of mineral freshness and pure fruit, leaving an impression of controlled depth. The 2025 vintage confirms a style where density is expressed with restraint, in a manner that is more elegant than showy, faithful to the wine estate’s contemporary signature.

ROSES2025

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
