Domaine Marguet: a biodynamic vision of Champagne.
Located at Ambonnay, in the heart of the Champagne region, Domaine Marguet stands out for its commitment to biodynamics, a Rare approach in Champagne. This conversion, initiated by Benoît Marguet, has profoundly transformed practices at Domaine.
While Benoit's parents Marguet sold their grapes to the house Krug, Benoit Marguet developed his own wine range with numerous parcel-based cuvées highlighting the diversity and richness of the old vines of Domaine.
As a fervent advocate of Biodynamics, Benoît Marguet, has revolutionized working methods by introducing biodynamic preparations, phytotherapy and aromatherapy. He has also introduced tillage with draught horses. The 8-hectare Domaine obtained Demeter certification in 2013.
Benoît's approach Marguet is guided by respect for natural balance, service to life, and delicate accompaniment of the winemaking process, avoiding any Brutality. Particular attention is paid to fermentation and ageing under wood. The use of sulfites is minimized.
At the same time, a significant effort has been made on dosage, drastically reduced or even eliminated on most cuvées. This development demonstrates that meticulous work in the vineyards produces wines that are authentic, expressive and naturally balanced by their terroir.
The culmination of this approach is represented by the cuvée Sapience, the result of a collaboration with oenologist Hervé Jestin.... See more ...
The Shaman cuvée comes from the great terroirs of Montagne de Reims, Ambonnay, and Bouzy, cultivated using biodynamic methods. The soil is mainly worked using animal traction, and minimal intervention during vinification, along with very low sulfur dosing, allow the grapes to express their full potential. Along with Yuman, Shaman is one of Maison Marguet's iconic cuvées.
The blend of 84% Pinot Noir and 16% Chardonnay reflects the desire to express the power of the terroir, while retaining elegance and depth. Aging on lees, in wooden containers or barrels, as well as the absence of dosage, result in a wine with a direct, meticulous, vibrant expression.
With a very light gold color and fine effervescence, this cuvée offers a complex and seductive nose. Aromas of raspberry, grapefruit, and yuzu lemon blend harmoniously. A more mineral register appears after a few minutes, along with a very slight touch of oak, a sign of precise aging. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied, carried by the Pinot Noir, which lends power and substance, while the Chardonnay brings finesse. The body is dynamic, carried by a vibrant liveliness. The aromas unfold deliciously and carry us to a long finish.
This Shaman 22 reveals a rare balance between intensity and precision: the fullness of red fruit, citrus brightness, racy structure, and assertive minerality. A high-flying wine, aimed at discerning enthusiasts in search of authenticity.
