It was in 1734 that Jacques Fourneaux created a Maison de Commerce de vin de Champagne as he was working with the great Benedictine abbeys who then owned the finest Champagne vineyards.

Jacques Fourneaux started this business in Reims, selling still Champagne red and white wines, followed by sparkling wines from these magnificent vineyards.

He is the third in the history of Champagne to start trading. The Fourneaux joined forces with Antoine Forest in the 1820s. The new business soon prospered under the name Forest-Fourneaux.

For a time, the company occupied the Hôtel le Vergeur in "Reims", before transferring, after the First World War, its business to rue de Tambour in the 13th-century home of the Comtes de Champagne.

In 1932, Pierre Taittinger acquired Château de la Marquetterie near Epernay from the Maison de Champagne Forest-Fourneaux. From 1945 to 1960, the company was managed by François Taittinger, assisted by his two brothers Jean and Claude, and it was during this period that the company moved into the cellars of the Saint-Nicaise abbey, built in the 13th century on Gallo-Roman chalk pits dating back to the 4th century. Then, in 1960, Claude Taittinger took over the helm and gave the company a considerable boost.

Description Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 1995.

The Cuvée Comtes de Champagne from Maison Taittinger was created in 1952 as a tribute to Thibault IV, King of Navarre and last Count of Champagne. And to give it even more character, it's housed in a uniquely identifiable 18th-century bottle.

The Comtes de Champagne cuvée is only made when the harvest is worthy of being Millésiméth, but even more, of exceptional quality. 1995, a sunny year, was not conducive to the harvest of Extraordinary Pinot Noir and Meunier grapes. By contrast, the Chardonnay on Côte des blancs will present a breathtaking balance of tension, ripeness and minerality.

This cuvée is a Blanc de blancs made from grapes from villages Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger, all "Grand Cru". The wines are aged between 8 and 10 years, depending on the year, 18 meters underground in the chalk pits of the former Saint Nicaise Abbey in Reims. Some of them (6%) were previously aged for 4 months in new oak barrels (a third renewed each year), which adds further complexity to the final blend.

The Cuvée Comte de Champagne 1995 presents a brilliant golden color with green highlights. The nose remains surprisingly youthful with notes of green apple, fresh hazelnut and white flowers, but also offers aromas of aging, yeast and sweet spices supported by a few brioche notes. On the palate, the attack is lively, slightly lemony, even aniseed-like, then we feel the roundness, the generosity of white peach, Anjou pear and white grapes Secs.
The finish, of extraordinary length, brings an even stronger sensation of suave, toasty, slightly smoky freshness.

To accompany this Cuvée Comtes de Champagne 1995 from Maison Taittinger, there's nothing like a fine salt-crusted sea bass, or scallops with leek fondue.

ROSES2025

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
