Ruinart

It was in 1729 that Nicolas Ruinart founded the House that bears his name. This was the foundation of the first de Champagne in the very early 18th century, the century of the Enlightenment when the French Court shone throughout the world, known and recognized for its art of living and also its knowledge of wines initiated by King Louis XIV, an admirer of, among other things, the Tokaj wines of Hungary.

Nicolas Ruinart is the son of a Drapier from the Champagne region, where the famous Foire de Troyes is held, crossroads of all trades including that of Aÿ wines, which would later be called Vin de Champagne in the 19th century.

He is also the nephew of Dom Thierry Ruinart, a Benedictine monk, born in 1657 and died in 1709 at Hautvillers Abbey in Champagne where precisely he initiated and discovered with Dom Pérignon the Secrets of Champagnisation.

Dom Ruinart, from the nobility, is a visionary, an author, a scholar who also worked alongside Dom Mabillon at the Abbey of Saint Germain des Prés. Dom Ruinard was close to the Court, its social life, its fads and its art of living. From there, he was able to pass on his erudition and insights into Champagne wine to his nephew, inviting Nicolas Ruinard to found his own Maison.

Description Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2010.

Dom Ruinart Blanc de blancs 2010 embodies the excellence of Maison Ruinart expertise, with a cuvée made exclusively from Grands Crus chardonnays. This vintage, the result of a year marked by climatic contrasts, reflects the richness of Champagne terroirs, in particular those of Côte des blancs and the northern slope of Montagne de Reims. The combination of these terroirs, combined with meticulous winemaking techniques, enables this cuvée to express exceptional depth and complexity.

The year 2010, characterized by a harsh winter followed by a contrasting summer with a rainy August, provided the right conditions for harvesting a particularly rich Chardonnay. From the very first tastings, the quality of the 2010 grapes surprised by their remarkable balance, enabling the oenological team to fully exploit its expertise in blending this cuvée. This aromatic richness is enhanced by a prolonged aging process on the lees, with at least nine years spent in the cellar, a period that gives the wine all its complexity and fullness.

One of the outstanding aspects of this vintage is the reintroduction of "tirage liège", a traditional method that has been revived by Maison Ruinart under the direction of its cellar master, Frédéric Panaïotis. The choice of this natural material, as a replacement for metal capsules, helps to pRéserver maintain the wine's freshness and subtle aromas throughout its ageing process. This return to an ancient technique is also accompanied by manual disgorging, a gesture Rare in modern Champagne production, but one that adds an extra dimension to the wine's complexity.

The tasting notes for this Dom Ruinart Blanc de blancs 2010 are particularly revealing of its quality. To the eye, the cuvée presents a golden yellow color, illuminated by green reflections and a fine, persistent effervescence. On the nose, first impressions reveal a powdery, floral dimension, with mineral accents reminiscent of the world of chypre perfumes. A Second nose reveals more complex aromas of Secs fruits, such as hazelnut and roasted almond, as well as a spicy touch evoking nutmeg and coffee.

On the palate, this Champagne reveals a delicate yet intense structure, with aromas of fig leaf, black tea and fresh spices. The fresh yet subtly bitter finish leaves a lasting impression of finesse and elegance. This wine pairs perfectly with refined dishes with roasted, spicy notes, such as black pork tenderloin, or smoked seafood such as blue lobster.

Dom Ruinart Blanc de blancs 2010 is much more than just a Champagne; it is the expression of a vintage in tension, sublimated by an oenological approach that is both traditional and innovative. It's a cuvée that celebrates patience and the art of winemaking, offering a memorable and unique tasting experience.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
