What is the history of Maison Pierre Gimonnet?
It's around 1750 that we can find in the archives traces of the Gimonnets as winegrowers in Champagne, where they deliver their harvest to the Champagne trade. From generation to generation, they passed on their love of the vine. It wasn't until 1935 that Pierre Gimonnet began its own winemaking business. Michel, Pierre's son, joined the business in 1955. His passion and pragmatism enabled him to be a pioneer in parcel-based vinification, giving each terroir the opportunity to fully express itself. Today, Olivier and Didier Gimonnet embody the third generation, worthy heirs to an exceptional savoir-faire.

Description Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Cuvée Spécial Club Oger 2017.
With the 2017 Spécial Club Oger cuvée, Pierre Gimonnet & Fils presents a unique and deeply terroir-driven interpretation of the Grand Cru d’Oger. True to its long-standing philosophy rooted in the art of blending, the house has nevertheless chosen, over the past few vintages, to explore the pure identity of certain iconic villages of the Côte des Blancs through an exclusive series of “Mono-Terroir” cuvées. Oger undoubtedly embodies the most intense and structured facet of this collection: a Chardonnay of restrained power, sculpted by chalk and marked by a minerality with particularly characteristic smoky and graphite notes. Sourced exclusively from four lieux-dits located within the Grand Cru d’Oger (Terres de Noël, Brulis, Fondy, and Champs Néron), this 2017 vintage draws its depth from a mosaic of soils where pure chalk alternates with clay-limestone veins. The plots at the heart of the terroir provide the wine with its backbone and density, while the more chalky sectors stretch the texture with remarkable saline precision.
In the glass, the pale gold color is adorned with a string of extremely fine bubbles. The nose reveals notes of candied lemon, citron zest, yellow apple, and ripe pear that intertwine with deeper notes of chalk and flint. Upon aeration, nuances of fresh hazelnut, butter, and brioche enrich the overall profile. The palate impresses with its balance between fullness and tension. The attack, energetic and precise, opens with a dense, almost tactile texture, carried by a straight and vibrant mineral backbone. The Oger terroir expresses itself here with intensity: a chalky sensation, smoky and graphite notes, as well as a saline depth that give the wine remarkable persistence. The long, structured finish leaves an impression of freshness, while the Extra-Brut dosage of 4 g/L further highlights the purity of the Chardonnay and the clarity of the terroir.
This exclusive 2017 Spécial Club Oger cuvée is intended for connoisseurs of racy, precise, and intensely mineral Blanc de Blancs.
