For almost three centuries now, the Rodez family has been attached to the land of Champagne, and more particularly to the terroir of Ambonnay and its charming little village, whose narrow streets are lined by the walls of the wine estates.
Eric Rodez and his wife Martine have been farming 6 hectares of vines according to the principles of Organic Farming and Biodynamics for several years, and have since handed over to their son Mickael, who embodies the ninth generation.
The Rodez family comes from a long line of winegrowers where each generation has contributed to chiseling the sumptuous terroir where they are based, so that it expresses all its richness. Today, the vineyard at Ambonnay on Montagne de Reims comprises 6 hectares, 4 of Pinot Noir and 2 of Chardonnay. Respect for and full development of the vines have always been a daily concern for them, which is why Eric Rodez committed its Domaine to converting to organic and biodynamic farming in 2009. In 2012, the winery was awarded "High Environmental Value" certification. Maison Rodez's philosophy is thus guided by this winemaker's common sense, which enables a fine maintenance of biodiversity, ultimately offering Champagnes delivering pleasure and enjoyment.

Coming from a long line of winemakers who have called Ambonnay home for several generations, Eric Rodez embodies a meticulous and deeply artisanal approach to champagne. A former cellar master at Krug, he developed a keen sensibility for blending before partially moving away from it through his single-vineyard cuvées. “Les Genettes” is part of this quest for the true expression of the terroir: a Grand Cru lieu-dit in Ambonnay, cultivated using organic viticulture, vinified in oak barrels without malolactic fermentation, and with minimal dosage to preserve the purity of expression. The 2016 vintage, marked by beautifully ripe grapes, gives rise here to a cuvée of character, precise and deeply distinctive.
In the glass, the color is a luminous pale gold, with subtle silvery highlights. The nose is remarkably clean, almost crystalline in its expression. Initial notes evoke fresh citrus fruits like lemon and grapefruit zest, quickly accompanied by hints of green apple and white flowers. With aeration, the bouquet gains depth. Hints of fresh almond, damp chalk, and sweet spices emerge, highlighting both the oak aging and the terroir’s mineral signature. The palate impresses with its tension and precision. The attack is direct, almost incisive, driven by a vibrant acidity that structures the whole. The mid-palate reveals a fuller body than expected, subtly creamy, where flavours of white fruit and ripe citrus mingle. The absence of malolactic fermentation preserves a sharp freshness, while barrel aging adds a tactile dimension and extra complexity. The long, mouth-watering finish unfolds over a resolutely mineral and saline framework, leaving an impression of remarkable purity and precision.
“Les Genettes” 2016 stands out as a champagne of place and conviction. A blanc de blancs that is both taut and deep, where rigorous winemaking yields a sincere expression of the terroir. A demanding cuvée, more contemplative than showy, intended for lovers of straightforward, structured, and intensely mineral champagnes.
