Franck Bonville Millésime 2018
Champagne Franck Bonville
In the early 1900s, Alfred Bonville took the ambitious gamble of buying plots of vines at a time when the Phylloxera crisis had raged just a few years earlier. This bold move paid off, as his son Franck Bonville founded the eponymous Champagne house in the early 1930s, which is still in the hands of his successors today. The Champagnes produced carry a history and are among the most qualitative of the Côte des blancs.
What is the history of Maison Franck Bonville?
In 1937, Alfred Bonville and his son Franck acquired a winegrower's house in the heart of Avize on Côte des blancs in order to make their own Champagne, but it wasn't until the aftermath of the Secsecond world war that Franck began to market the first cuvées under his own name and to expand the Domaine on the Avize terroir. In 1970, their son Gilles and his wife Ingrid joined the family business and modernized the technical tools with more appropriate technology. Their son Olivier, with a degree in oenology and extensive winemaking experience in Corsica and Germany, joined them in 1996, representing the fourth generation. It was also at this time that Gilles decided to manage the vineyard in a sustainable way.

Description Franck Bonville Millésime 2018.
For several generations, Franck Bonville has been showcasing the identity of the great terroirs of the Côte des Blancs through a precise and nuanced interpretation of Chardonnay. His approach, based on the purity of the fruit and the expression of the chalky soils, gives rise to signature champagnes in which each village expresses its own unique character. Among them, Avize holds a unique place: a terroir renowned for combining aromatic richness, floral finesse, and mineral tension. The 2018 Grand Cru Avize Vintage brilliantly captures the sun-drenched generosity of this exceptional year while preserving the village’s signature refined elegance. Made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes sourced from the Avize Grand Cru, this champagne reveals a profile that is at once luminous, ripe, and remarkably balanced.
The initial nose captivates with its luscious intensity: ripe yellow fruits, mirabelle plums, vine peaches, and poached pears intertwine with more exotic nuances of fresh pineapple, delicate mango, and candied citrus. Upon aeration, notes of white flowers, delicate brioche, and damp chalk add depth and sophistication. On the palate, the wine unfolds with a full-bodied, silky texture—the signature of the 2018 vintage—immediately supported by the structuring freshness of Avize’s chalky soils. The enveloping texture finds an ideal counterpoint in a saline, taut framework that stretches the wine with great elegance. The Extra-Brut dosage of 5 g/L preserves the balance between richness and precision, without ever masking the natural brilliance of the Chardonnay.
Vinified in stainless steel tanks with alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, then aged for six years on slats before disgorgement in July 2025, this vintage now displays a beautiful complexity of maturity while retaining remarkable energy.
