The Domaine Agrapart is located in Avize and its 12 ha vineyard is mostly spread over Avize, Oger, Cramant, and Oiry Grands Crus de la Côte des blancs.
The chalky soil, specific to Côte des blancs, enables the Chardonnay grape variety to be worked, especially known for bringing freshness, elegance and finesse to the wine.
Composed of 50 plots, some of which are over 65 years old, the average age of the vineyard is around 40 years. Pascal Agrapart favors the use of traditional methods of cultivation and vinification, and has decided to "parcelize" his cuvées since 1995, selecting three families of soils: one with superficial clay soils, another limestone, the last clay-limestone, all three sitting on the chalky base of Côte des blancs.
Pascal likes to recall: "My father used to tell me: 'You work your vineyard like a garden'."
The Agrapart estate, established in Avize since the late 19th century, is one of the iconic wine estates of the Côte des Blancs. Now run by Pascal and Fabien Agrapart, it embodies an artisanal style that is sincere and deeply attached to the expression of the terroir. The vines, almost exclusively located in Grands Crus, are cultivated with meticulous care and each plot is vinified separately to reveal its uniqueness. In the cellar, fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts. The wines are neither fined nor filtered and the dosage is relatively low.
The Pinot d'Avenay cuvée illustrates a more exclusive and unique facet of Agrapart's work. Made from Pinot Noir grown on the Avenay-Val-d'Or terroir, this single-vineyard champagne precisely expresses the elegance and finesse of the grape variety when vinified with the rigor and sensitivity characteristic of the wine estate.
The 2019 vintage has a light gold color with slightly coppery highlights, traversed by fine, regular bubbles. The nose is expressive and refined, blending scents of fresh red fruits such as raspberry, redcurrant, and cherry, as well as apple and orange zest. With aeration, delicate floral nuances appear, along with a touch of sweet spices and a slight chalky note that brings depth and complexity. On the palate, the attack is precise and elegant. The mid-palate develops a chiseled acidity and a delicate vinosity, typical of Pinot Noir. The flavors of crisp red fruits mingle with notes of white-fleshed fruits, white pepper, and chalk. The crisp and persistent finish is carried by a beautiful mineral tension.
Agrapart Pinot d'Avenay 2019 stands out for its elegance, precision, and airy character, offering a subtle and refined interpretation of Champagne Pinot Noir, faithful to the pure and sincere aesthetic of the house.
This Brut Nature has a natural dosage with an SO2 level of less than 50 mg/L and is available exclusively in bottles.
