Established since 1763 in the renowned terroir of Chigny-les-Roses, Maison Cattier is one of the oldest and most respected family-owned houses in the Montagne de Reims. With artisanal expertise passed down through thirteen generations, this independent house excels in the art of crafting Premier Cru cuvées of unparalleled richness, fruitiness, and consistency.
Today, the House proudly upholds its high standards under the leadership of Alexandre Cattier, who embodies the estate’s winemaking expertise. The vineyard spans some thirty hectares, ideally situated in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, where Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir find their ideal terroir. One of the house’s greatest treasures lies underground: its cuvées age in historic chalk cellars among the deepest in the region, dug out over four levels to provide absolute freshness during aging.
The strength of Cattier champagnes lies in their masterfully balanced vinosity and innate richness. A pioneer in eco-responsible viticulture (HVE-certified), the house prioritizes rigorous soil management to preserve the fruit’s brilliance. While the family’s elite technical expertise is celebrated worldwide—it notably oversees the production of the famous Armand de Brignac prestige cuvées—the eponymous range stands out for its silky texture and remarkably satiny bubbles, born of long aging in the cellar.
This iconic cuvée from Cattier perfectly embodies the estate’s generous and indulgent style. Made primarily from Pinot Meunier grapes sourced from the Premier Crus of the Montagne de Reims, notably the villages of Ludes, Chigny-les-Roses, and Rilly-la-Montagne, it combines vibrant fruit, fullness, and freshness in a particularly accessible and refined profile. Aged for over three years in the cellar before disgorgement, the cuvée develops beautiful complexity while retaining a very pure expression of the fruit. The moderate dosage of 7.5 g/L harmoniously complements the wine’s natural balance without masking its tension.
The color is a brilliant light yellow-gold, enlivened by fine, dynamic effervescence. The delicate, regular stream of bubbles immediately conveys a sense of freshness and elegance. The nose is expressive and generous from the very first moment. Delicious notes of slightly spiced biscuit, evoking speculoos and brioche, intertwine with delicate floral aromas of acacia and white flowers. Upon aeration, the bouquet gains depth with nuances of fresh fig, ripe plum, and stewed yellow fruits, enhanced by a subtle hint of honey. The attack on the palate is lively and precise, carried by a creamy, perfectly integrated mousse. The wine quickly reveals a full-bodied, enveloping texture with successive flavors of white peach, apricot, and ripe citrus. The mid-palate then gains complexity with notes of fresh hazelnut, light almond, and acacia honey, while deeper hints of blackcurrant and black cherry add depth and richness. The finish, long and harmonious, retains a lovely freshness despite the wine’s overall aromatic richness. The balance between vinous character, fruit, and structure gives rise to a particularly alluring champagne, at once approachable, elegant, and intensely flavorful.
