Established since 1763 in the renowned terroir of Chigny-les-Roses, Maison Cattier is one of the oldest and most respected family-owned houses in the Montagne de Reims. With artisanal expertise passed down through thirteen generations, this independent house excels in the art of crafting Premier Cru cuvées of unparalleled richness, fruitiness, and consistency.
Today, the House proudly upholds its high standards under the leadership of Alexandre Cattier, who embodies the estate’s winemaking expertise. The vineyard spans some thirty hectares, ideally situated in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, where Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir find their ideal terroir. One of the house’s greatest treasures lies underground: its cuvées age in historic chalk cellars among the deepest in the region, dug out over four levels to provide absolute freshness during aging.
The strength of Cattier champagnes lies in their masterfully balanced vinosity and innate richness. A pioneer in eco-responsible viticulture (HVE-certified), the house prioritizes rigorous soil management to preserve the fruit’s brilliance. While the family’s elite technical expertise is celebrated worldwide—it notably oversees the production of the famous Armand de Brignac prestige cuvées—the eponymous range stands out for its silky texture and remarkably satiny bubbles, born of long aging in the cellar.
An iconic cuvée from Cattier, the Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru elegantly expresses all the finesse of the terroirs of the Montagne de Reims, particularly those of Chigny-les-Roses, Rilly-la-Montagne, and Ludes. Made exclusively from white grape varieties, it captivates with its balance of freshness, roundness, and aromatic intensity. Aged for over three years in the cellar, this champagne develops beautiful complexity while retaining remarkable liveliness. Its dosage of 8 g/L harmoniously complements the wine’s natural tension and highlights its richness.
The color is a luminous pale yellow with silvery highlights. In the glass, the effervescence is elegant, consistent, and particularly fine. The nose reveals a delicate and refined aromatic profile. The initial notes evoke fresh citrus, exotic fruits, and white fruits such as crisp pear and fresh apple. This fruity freshness is gradually joined by richer nuances of light strawberry, English candy, and orange blossom. Aeration then reveals more complex touches of delicate honey, fresh ginger, vanilla, and praline, adding depth and sophistication. The attack on the palate is both creamy and lively, carried by a lovely tart acidity. The enveloping texture quickly gives way to flavors of fresh pastries, light brioche, and ripe white fruits. Citrus notes bring a burst of energy, while hints of vanilla and lemon tart elegantly enrich the mid-palate. The long, precise, and refreshing finish prolongs the flavors of candied citrus and pastry lemon in a profile that is both indulgent and airy.
Particularly elegant as an aperitif, this Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru pairs perfectly with a seafood platter, sashimi, or turbot in a creamy sauce. It also pairs very well with aged cheeses such as dry goat cheese or Abondance, as well as with lemon-based desserts such as lemon meringue pie.
