Established since 1763 in the renowned terroir of Chigny-les-Roses, Maison Cattier is one of the oldest and most respected family-owned houses in the Montagne de Reims. With artisanal expertise passed down through thirteen generations, this independent house excels in the art of crafting Premier Cru cuvées of unparalleled richness, fruitiness, and consistency.
Today, the House proudly upholds its high standards under the leadership of Alexandre Cattier, who embodies the estate’s winemaking expertise. The vineyard spans some thirty hectares, ideally situated in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, where Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir find their ideal terroir. One of the house’s greatest treasures lies underground: its cuvées age in historic chalk cellars among the deepest in the region, dug out over four levels to provide absolute freshness during aging.
The strength of Cattier champagnes lies in their masterfully balanced vinosity and innate richness. A pioneer in eco-responsible viticulture (HVE-certified), the house prioritizes rigorous soil management to preserve the fruit’s brilliance. While the family’s elite technical expertise is celebrated worldwide—it notably oversees the production of the famous Armand de Brignac prestige cuvées—the eponymous range stands out for its silky texture and remarkably satiny bubbles, born of long aging in the cellar.
Crafted from a blend of some twenty cuvées, Cattier’s Brut Icône expresses a style that is at once vibrant, generous, and precise. Composed primarily of red grape varieties, it achieves a remarkable balance between power, freshness, and finesse, enhanced by a significant proportion of reserve wines that enrich its complexity and consistency. The blend combines 45% Meunier, 35% Pinot Noir, and 20% Chardonnay, complemented by 30 to 35% reserve wines. Aged for over two years on the lees, this champagne retains a particularly lively and fruity character, supported by a moderate dosage of 6 g/L that fully respects the wine’s natural tension.
The color displays an elegant, luminous pale yellow hue. In the glass, a fine stream of bubbles animates the wine with delicacy and consistency. The nose is immediately expressive and seductive. The initial notes reveal a lovely citrus freshness dominated by lemon and fresh citrus zest, quickly accompanied by hints of strawberry and crisp cherry. With aeration, the bouquet becomes more indulgent, with exotic touches of mango and ripe pineapple, enriched by aromas of candied apricot and a delicate note of toasted almond that adds depth and complexity. The attack on the palate is lively and dynamic, driven by a vibrant freshness reminiscent of grapefruit and mandarin. The texture then becomes fuller and more harmonious, revealing flavors of candied pear and ripe yellow fruits. On the finish, deeper notes of black fruits, notably morello cherry and black cherry, enrich the tasting experience with great elegance. The finish, persistent and balanced, prolongs the wine’s freshness while leaving a rich and refined sensation.
The ultimate aperitif champagne, Brut Icône pairs perfectly with cheese gougères, savory petits fours, or refined appetizers. Its generous texture and freshness also make it an excellent match for poultry in cream sauce or delicately sauced dishes.
