Established since 1763 in the renowned terroir of Chigny-les-Roses, Maison Cattier is one of the oldest and most respected family-owned houses in the Montagne de Reims. With artisanal expertise passed down through thirteen generations, this independent house excels in the art of crafting Premier Cru cuvées of unparalleled richness, fruitiness, and consistency.
Today, the House proudly upholds its high standards under the leadership of Alexandre Cattier, who embodies the estate’s winemaking expertise. The vineyard spans some thirty hectares, ideally situated in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, where Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir find their ideal terroir. One of the house’s greatest treasures lies underground: its cuvées age in historic chalk cellars among the deepest in the region, dug out over four levels to provide absolute freshness during aging.
The strength of Cattier champagnes lies in their masterfully balanced vinosity and innate richness. A pioneer in eco-responsible viticulture (HVE-certified), the house prioritizes rigorous soil management to preserve the fruit’s brilliance. While the family’s elite technical expertise is celebrated worldwide—it notably oversees the production of the famous Armand de Brignac prestige cuvées—the eponymous range stands out for its silky texture and remarkably satiny bubbles, born of long aging in the cellar.
Created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Maison Cattier, the Clos du Moulin 100th Anniversary Cuvée is an extremely limited edition, produced exclusively in numbered magnums. This anniversary cuvée pays tribute to one of Champagne’s historic gems: the Clos du Moulin, a walled vineyard of just 2.2 hectares located near Chigny-les-Roses, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims.
Benefiting from a particularly favorable exposure, this iconic plot produces wines renowned for their depth, finesse, and aging potential. For this special edition, Maison Cattier has selected three great vintages: 1999, 2000, and 2002, chosen for their complementary qualities and exceptional ability to evolve over time. The style of this cuvée is based on a quest for balance between maturity, freshness, and complexity. The long aging in the cellar allows the champagne to develop a full-bodied, refined texture, while retaining the energy and precision characteristic of Clos du Moulin.
On the nose, the cuvée reveals a particularly refined expression blending ripe fruit, candied citrus, pastry notes, and delicately spiced nuances. With aeration, more developed aromas gradually emerge: dried fruit, delicate honey, toasted brioche, and slightly smoky touches enrich the bouquet. The palate stands out for its depth and perfectly controlled tension. The attack, full-bodied and silky, gives way to a generous texture carried by a lingering freshness. Flavors of ripe yellow fruit, dried fruit, and mild spices linger at length before an elegant, briny, and very precise finish.
This anniversary cuvée fully exemplifies Maison Cattier’s historic expertise in the art of blending and aging great terroir champagnes. Produced in very limited quantities, it represents a rare and prestigious interpretation of Clos du Moulin, designed as much for fine dining as for cellaring.
