In a title deed from the Abbey of Citeaux dated February 1365, the name "Cloux des Lambrey" appears for the first time, a spelling which disappeared over time and which today is written "Clos des Lambrays". On a milestone in the wall of sealed Clos des Lambrays appears this same date as a reminder to visitors in homage to time.
Le Clos des Lambrays is located at Morey-Saint-Denis on the prestigious Côte des Nuits. The village of Morey-Saint-Denis has the highest proportion of Grands Crus.
The Clos, one of the Rares and most prestigious Clos de Bourgogne is surrounded by walls and is situated on a gentle ridge on which lies the vineyard of Clos des Lambrays whose oldest vines are over 60 years old. The Clos des Lambrays is planted with Pinot Noir on a very small area of around 8 hectares, a very Rare but sublime production.
The Clos des Lambrays house also produces a Puligny-Montrachet and Clos du Cailleret les Folatieres both in Premier Cru.
From one of the most prestigious clos de Morey-Saint-Denis, this 2003 vintage of Clos des Lambrays stands out for its density and aromatic depth, a faithful reflection of a mature Pinot Noir, Extra carefully nurtured.
In a year marked by heat, the Domaine was able to pRéserver balance, producing a wine that is both sunny and refined.
The first nose opens with an intense fruity framework (candied Morello cherry, blackberry and crushed raspberry) before evolving towards darker tertiary aromas: humus, fine leather, cigar box, and a hint of dried violet on the finish.
The palate is full-bodied, structured by mellow but still lively tannins, offering good length and a saline mineral signature in retro-olfaction.
Served at a controlled temperature (16-17°C), this wine unfolds its full potential as an accompaniment to characterful meats such as roast game or duck breast with wild berries.
A fully mature, complex Grand Cru, which continues to gain in subtlety with age, establishing itself as a model of Burgundian elegance in an atypical vintage.
