On the nose, this cognac reveals aromas of gingerbread, cashews, and licorice, followed by notes of cloves and oak leaves. Then, the world of leather invites itself in: old leather, like a Chesterfield armchair or a horse saddle. Licorice returns on the palate, more specifically in the form of a licorice stick, accompanied by notes of tobacco and cigar box, delicately coated with ripe quince. Woody essences of sandalwood and cedar complete this aromatic palette.
The finish is powerful and complex, with woody tannins that are discreet yet long and persistent. A delicate rancio concludes this remarkable tasting.
A unique history
This Grande Champagne comes from the Bouteville region. It was distilled in a traditional distillery equipped with two small charcoal-fired stills, before being aged in barrels and then in 150- and 200-liter oak casks. During World War II, this cognac was hidden in a "secret room" behind a false wall in the distiller's private residence.
A family business
Founded in 1905 by Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen, the house is now run by his great-grandson, Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen. The family's mission has always been to select and produce cognacs of the highest quality for connoisseurs around the world.
