In the heart of the Cognac vineyards, in Grande Champagne - 1er Cru du Cognac - Maison Laurichesse is a family business with a dual paternal and maternal heritage.
The vineyard covers 60 hectares, divided between Angeac-Champagne, Segonzac and Verrières. Olivier, representing the 5th generation, looks after the vines and supervises distillation and cellar work, while Léa, his wife, manages administration and business development. Their roles are complementary, but together they select the best eaux-de-vie.
The soils of Grande Champagne, rich in clay and limestone, provide unique hydric regulation and aromatic complexity to the vines that thrive here. The vineyard's heterogeneous plots benefit from unique microclimates that influence grape quality. Careful harvesting guarantees the quality of the base wine. Pressing is delicate, using pneumatic presses to pRéserver extract the juice, which is then fermented in stainless steel tanks. Charentaise distillation, or double distillation, is carried out using three traditional copper stills. The first heating produces the "brouillis", then the "bonne chauffe" is distilled again to obtain the "cœur" of the distillate. The cellar master cuts these different fractions to preserve the purest, most aromatic part of the nectar. This is what will be used for ageing. Mastery of the art of ageing, carried out in oak barrels from local cooperages, finally confers the distinctive depth that is the hallmark of Maison Laurichesse Cognacs.
Cuvée Le Chai de Mon Père Fût 212, produced in an extremely limited quantity of 165 bottles, is a remarkable expression of Laurichesse's savoir-faire. Distilled in the 1970s, this Cognac comes from a traditional still that has been in continuous operation since its creation on the family estate in Verrières. Bottled in November 2023, this Cognac is the result of meticulous ageing in barrel 212. This barrel was neither reduced nor toffee added, in order to preserve the nectar's integrity.
To the eye, Cognac has a brilliant color with deep golden highlights, testimony to its prolonged ageing. The nose is rich and very expressive, with a first eXOtic impression revealing candied fruit aromas and a hint of spice, accompanied by woody notes and a beautiful rancio. Hints of ginger and acacia further enrich the bouquet, giving it a fascinating complexity. On the palate, this Cognac is lively and powerful. It offers a perfect balance of spices, toasty notes and subtle candied fruit flavors. The texture is silky and the finish is persistent, leaving long, enveloping aromas of ginger.
This Cognac is ideal for contemplative tasting or to mark special occasions.
