The Domaine Agrapart is located in Avize and its 12 ha vineyard is mostly spread over Avize, Oger, Cramant, and Oiry Grands Crus de la Côte des blancs.
The chalky soil, specific to Côte des blancs, enables the Chardonnay grape variety to be worked, especially known for bringing freshness, elegance and finesse to the wine.
Composed of 50 plots, some of which are over 65 years old, the average age of the vineyard is around 40 years. Pascal Agrapart favors the use of traditional methods of cultivation and vinification, and has decided to "parcelize" his cuvées since 1995, selecting three families of soils: one with superficial clay soils, another limestone, the last clay-limestone, all three sitting on the chalky base of Côte des blancs.
Pascal likes to recall: "My father used to tell me: 'You work your vineyard like a garden'."
The Agrapart estate, established in Avize since the late 19th century, is one of the iconic wine estates of the Côte des Blancs. Now run by Pascal and Fabien Agrapart, it embodies an artisanal style that is sincere and deeply attached to the expression of the terroir. The vines, located almost exclusively in Grands Crus, are cultivated with meticulous care and each plot is vinified separately to reveal its uniqueness. In the cellar, fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts. The wines are neither fined nor filtered and the dosage is relatively low.
The 2018 Avizoise cuvée comes from old vines in Avize planted on deep clay-limestone soils. In the glass, it offers a magnificent light gold color, luminous with slightly green highlights. The nose opens with aromas of white peach, pear, and Granny Smith apple. Added to this are floral nuances of acacia and hawthorn, as well as more toasted notes of pastry and roasted hazelnut. The whole is refined and incredibly elegant. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and velvety, supported by a precise acidity that gives the wine tension and freshness. The texture is dense but perfectly balanced, combining white fruits, ripe citrus and pastry notes with a delicate salinity that lingers on the palate. The finish is long, straightforward and persistent, with notes of stone fruit, citrus and wet stone.
Agrapart Avizoise 2018 embodies the noble and refined style of the house: a powerful, luminous, precise champagne that authentically expresses the soul of the Côte des Blancs terroir.
