De Sousa

La Maison De Sousa is located in the commune of Avize in the heart of the prestigious Côte des blancs. It was founded by Antoine De Sousa in the 1950s through marriage to a daughter from a winegrowing family.

Today, Erick De Sousa is one of the region's most talented winemakers, favoring a sustainable approach to his vineyards in order to produce authentic Champagnes of great purity.

What is the history of Maison De Sousa?

In the aftermath of the First World War, Manuel De Sousa, originally from the province of Braga and part of the Portuguese contingent sent to the front, decided to settle in Champagne at Avize with his wife. His son Antoine married Zoémie Bonville, from a long-established family of winegrowers in the region. A success story that has never ceased to endure. Their son Erick took over in 1986, demonstrating exceptional talent in raising the vineyard to a new level of excellence Rare. Today, he is gradually passing on his heritage and passion to his three children: Charlotte, Julie and Valentin, who will continue to write the pages of history.

What is the terroir of Maison De Sousa?

Description De Sousa Cuvée des Caudalies 2013.

Exclusively from Chardonnay vines aged over 60 years and grown on the famous Côte des blancs chalk terroir, Cuvée des Caudalies vintage 2013 is a masterful testimony to Maison De Sousa's winemaking expertise.

This cuvée immediately stands out for its luminous golden color and fine, persistent bubbles. On the nose, it offers remarkable complexity with aromas of brioche and chalk, characteristic of its limestone terroir. Notes of white-fleshed fruit, such as peach and nectarine, mingle with subtle hints of vanilla and toasted notes, the result of its ageing in wood.

On the palate, the whole is magnificently full-bodied, thanks to the finesse of the young wines and the aromatic richness of Réserve. The moderate dosage of 5 g/L ensures a fine balance between freshness and structure. The rich palate reveals aromas of ripe lemon, almond and a persistent chalky minerality that carries through to a long, elegant finish.

Ideally served between 10 and 12°C, this cuvée goes perfectly with refined dishes such as seafood, mature cheeses and fish dishes. With an ageing potential of 8 to 20 years, this cuvée is capable of evolving and gaining in complexity over the years.
