The Maison Cazals was founded in 1897 in Mesnil-sur-Oger by Ernest Cazals, a renowned cooper originally from the Hérault region of France who had married a Champagne woman.
Three generations have since succeeded one another at the head of the estate, and today DelpHine Cazals manages it with the same passion and enthusiasm to continually highlight this great terroir of Côte des blancs.
Delphine Cazals has run the company since the death of his father in 1996. The entire Cazals vineyard comprises 9 hectares of vines spread over 4 communes: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Vertus and Villeneuve. One part is therefore classified as Grand Cru and the other as Premier Cru. All vines are planted with Chardonnay to create cuvées with their own identity, full of finesse and aromatic power. The oceanic climate with continental influences is conducive to its development.
One of Maison Cazals' assets is an exceptional parcel of land classified as Grand Cru in a delimited area: Le Clos Cazals, covering 3.70 hectares of old vines in the village of Oger.

From the prestigious terroirs of Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger, this 2016 vintage, composed of 100% Chardonnay, captures the essence of the Grand Crus of Côte des blancs. Aged 6 years on lees in vaulted cellars and disgorged in late 2023, it offers pure minerality and Rare elegance, with a precise dosage of 3 g/L.
Climatic conditions
2016 was particularly marked by extreme conditions. A difficult start to the season, with torrential rain, late frost, hail and disease, gave way to a campaign ending in intense heat and marked drought. Despite these challenges, the harvest revealed some pleasant surprises, with healthy grapes, satisfactory yields and wines with great potential.
Tasting
Visually, Claude Cazals Millésime 2016 has a crystalline color with golden highlights, revealing dynamic effervescence and fine bubbles. The nose reveals sophisticated aromas of candied citrus fruit, pear and white flowers, accompanied by tangy touches of Granny Smith apple, followed by iodine and menthol notes on aeration.
On the palate, the attack is frank, carried by a beautiful minerality and remarkable purity. The flavors perceived on the nose are confirmed on tasting, extending into a long, elegant finish.
Food & wine pairing Champagne
This Champagne goes perfectly with seafood, oysters, white fish, as well as sushi and sashimi. It can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with a meal, enhancing each dish with finesse and freshness.
The 2016 vintage, despite difficult weather conditions, produced wines with great potential, testifying to the resilience and quality of this terroir.
