Le Château La Tour Carnet is a magnificent 12th-century medieval building surrounded by a moat in the heart of the Haut-Médoc appellation. It was inherited by Squire Carnet from Lord Jean de Foy. The vineyard was established in 1407.
The Château La Tour Carnet was named Fourth Grand Cru Classé in the famous Médoc wine classification of 1855, made official for the Paris Universal Exhibition.
It is today owned by businessman Bernard Magrez, who continues to innovate and invest in it, both in the vineyard and the winery, making this Grand Cru a true model.
The vineyard rests on Günzian gravel soils on a clay-limestone bedrock, covering an area of 178 hectares planted with 59% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet franc. The grand vin is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, 33% of which are new. The Second wine of the property is called Les Pensées de la Tour Carnet.
Since 2020, a white wine Sec is produced on the property, Château La Tour Carnet white, from 1.25 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon vines.
The Château La Tour Carnet embodies the excellence of the Médoc Grands Crus Classés, offering complex, fine and seductive wines.
Château La Tour Carnet 2012 is a Grand Cru Classé from Haut-Médoc with a rich history dating back to the 12th century, making it one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. Its vineyard, planted in 1407, spans 112 hectares in Saint Laurent Médoc, thriving on clay and limestone soils covered with Günz gravel. The blend is 61% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, from vines averaging 30 years old.
Crafted with meticulous care, the winemaking process includes manual harvesting, cryogenic cooling, and fermentation in wooden and concrete tanks, followed by 18 months of aging in oak barrels (30% new).
This wine offers a medium-bodied elegance, with layers of ripe red fruits, subtle spice, and velvety tannins, ideal for pairing with roasted duck or aged Comté cheese.
