Château Grand-Puy Ducasse

The location of Château Grand Puy Ducasse is very special, as it offers the unique feature of being entirely urban, right in the heart of Pauillac and facing the Gironde.

Archives reveal its existence in the 17th century, and its owner at the time added his name Ducasse.

Grand Puy Ducasse is divided into three parts: one part neighbors the Mouton-Rothschild and Lafite-Rothschild vineyards, another part is located at the very place of Grand Puy from which it takes its name, and finally another part on the St Lambert plateau along the Gironde estuary.

This Château covers an area of 40 hectares consisting of siliceous-gravelly soil and subsoil and Garonne gravel, with vines of an average age of 25 years.

Varietal composition: cabernet sauvignon 60%, merlot noir 40%.

Annual production is in the order of 160 to 170 barrels, or 200 to 210,000 bottles.

All harvesting is done by hand and the wine is aged in new barrels in the proportion of 30 to 40%, depending on the vintage for 12 to 16 months before bottling.

Description Château Grand-Puy Ducasse 2023.

The 2023 vintage at Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is synonymous with renewal and precision. Climatic conditions turned out to be quite balanced, between a mild, rainy winter and a hot Sec summer! The rains at the beginning of September enabled the Merlot grapes to reach maturity, and we waited serenely for the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to ripen. Although the harvest started relatively early compared with previous vintages, it was spread out slowly until October.

2023 is historic for the estate, as it is the first vintage to be vinified in the new Château gravity-fed vat room. Calm reigned in the cellar, and the vats, twice as numerous and of smaller capacity, brought a unique precision and finesse. Let's bet that this vintage will be remembered as the first of a new era for the estate, finally equipped with a tool to reveal its unique terroir..
