Today run by Filppo and Francesco Mazzei, the family business continues its commitment to the wine trade, combining tradition, innovation and respect for the terroir.
Today, the family owns three estates: Castello di Fonterutoli in Chianti Classico, Belguardo in Maremma Tuscany and Zisola in southern Sicily. These exceptional terroirs allow us to express a varied richness while respecting the characteristics and specificities of each one. The constant care given to the wines is reflected in each cuvée, to the satisfaction of connoisseurs the world over, who associate the Mazzei name with a benchmark in the world of great Italian wines.

The most famous of these properties is undoubtedly Castello di Fonterutoli. Located in the heart of Tuscany's Chianti Classico region, this historic Domaine estate extends over several hundred hectares of rocky terrain. The age-old knowledge of the Mazzei family brings out the best in the grape varieties grown here: sangiovese, malvasia, colorino, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. In order to express the complexity of the grapes and the Extraordinary range of aromas, the 114 plots are harvested by hand and then aged in wood on a parcel-by-parcel basis. The result is wines of excellence, a benchmark for the Chianti Classico region.
Tasting notes:
With their highly specific microclimate, Siepi's vineyard plots produce wines with a perfect balance of power, elegance and complexity. The blend of Merlot and Sangiovese grapes is hand-harvested before being aged for 18 months in barrels, giving the wine a refined tannic structure. In its crimson case, the wine reveals notes of black berries, elderflowers, sandalwood and light tobacco. On the palate, it offers a supple, velvety texture with plenty of power. A lovely freshness appears on the attack, stretching through to a persistent, crystalline finish with mineral notes.
