The Château Marquis de Terme is a very pretty reference of the great wines of Margaux, renowned for its fruit and finesse. It was in 1762 that the Marquis de Terme gave his name to this property, which he received by marriage as a dowry from his wife.
Thomas Jefferson, US ambassador to France, praised it in his travel notes in 1787, ranking it among his favorites.
The Château Marquis de Terme was awarded the title of Fourth Grand Cru Classé in the prestigious 1855 classification, published for the Paris Universal Exhibition. The property has belonged to the Sénéclauze family since 1935, who continue to contribute to its qualitative development: respect for the environment, plot management and tailor-made vinification help reveal the Extraordinary potential of its terroir.
The vineyard covers 39 hectares of vines, planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. It is located on gravelly soils with deep clay in places. The wines are aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.
One Second wine is produced by the estate, La Couronne de Marquis de Terme.
Château Marquis de Terme is renowned for the splendor and gourmandise of its wines, which offer a beautiful expression of the Margaux terroir and stand out for their seductive side.
Our deep gravel soils expressed themselves particularly well in the face of complex climatic conditions: a mild winter, a cool, rainy spring until June followed by a hot, dry late summer that particularly benefited our Cabernet Sauvignon.
September and October played the role of finishing ripeness to perfection.
This 2021 vintage reveals a deep, intense color.
The nose is complex, with notes of blackcurrant and blueberry. Spicy notes of white pepper, cedar and menthol complete the bouquet.
The palate is charming and elegant, with sweet flavors of fresh blackberries and cocoa. A hint of licorice adds complexity to the finish. The tannins are silky and delicate, and the acidity reinforces the natural freshness. This is a seductive, perfectly balanced vintage to discover.
